Jeannie DeAngelis - Joe Biden screws up

Originally posted at American Thinker
Joe Biden, Vice President of the United States and unofficial defender of Gotham, has recently warned America that if Barack's Stimulus II/$450 billion jobs bomb isn't passed, phantom rapists and murderers will emerge from the shadows to inflict injury on unsuspecting Americans.

Recently, when asked to clarify his statement that, if Stimulus II isn't passed, "Murder will continue to rise, rape will continue to rise, all crime will continue to rise," a testy Mr. Biden responded to a persistent inquisitor by saying: "Don't screw with me."

Then, when asked about the popularity of the nationwide Occupy movement, Joe colorfully shared a similar sentiment. According to 'Don't screw with me' Joe, Wall Street's feisty activist demonstrations are popular simply because "The middle class has been screwed."

So, besides shielding helpless women from rapists, Mr. Biden believes the jobs bill is the key to getting the national screwing to stop.

Yet, for a man so concerned with preventing Americans from being 'screwed,' Joe Biden seems relatively unconcerned that Occupy Wall Street is 'occupying' the NYPD police force to such a degree that "The number of people shot surged 154 percent two weeks ago -- to 56 from 22 over the same week last year -- and spiked 28 percent in the last month."

Playing the murder/rape card for political expediency, Vice President Biden is obviously over-exaggerating. However, what may be closer to the truth is that, in high-crime areas, fewer police on the job could threaten public safety. Take for instance New York City, home to Occupy Wall Street. It's there that a group of "high-ranking cops point the finger at Occupy Wall Street protesters" for the increase in New York City crime, because "instead of being sent to Jamaica, Brownsville and the South Bronx... special crime-fighting units ...are on Wall Street" dealing with dancers, drummers and dumpsters.

According to a NYPD spokesperson, "Normally, the task force is used in high-crime neighborhoods where you have a lot of shootings and robberies." So while Joe cites fictional 911 operators being unavailable to assist rape victims calling out for help due to lack of a jobs bill, he's yet to address the large numbers of New York City police officers who are presently unavailable to respond to actual emergencies because so many are preoccupied attending to "rowdy crowds" on Wall Street.

Vice President Biden is worried that if the jobs bill isn't passed, "murder, robbery and rape will continue to rise." However, thus far, Joe has chosen to ignore that "when OWS marches, as many as 3,000 cops a day could be called on to keep the peace. That's about 10 percent of the total force." A 10% decrease in police presence in historically dangerous urban neighborhoods is, to paraphrase Joe Biden, 'screwing up' law enforcement's ability to maintain a safe environment for "real people" who the Vice President claims need "real relief right now."

If Mr. Biden feels so strongly about cops being available to prevent imaginary rapes in Flint, Michigan, then where's his outrage over the actual bullets boomeranging over Broadway that, while he's out defending his murder/rape theory, injure and kill real human beings?

Moreover, what could possibly be the rationale behind using the threat of a nationwide rape epidemic and making such an extreme argument to justify passing unpopular legislation while ignoring shootings taking place in real time because police are engrossed in controlling a mob marching in support of a bill that Biden claims will ensure police personnel are on hand to put a stop to crime?

The Vice President's lame attempt to justify thrusting the nation deeper into debt by warning of nonexistent murders and imaginary rapes while simultaneously sanctioning a movement that in actuality does sap much-needed law enforcement from high-crime areas, does nothing more than assist in a type of political screwing that Joe brings up every time he opens his mouth.

Thus, an empathetic Joe Biden's solidarity with Occupy Wall Street's demand for a jobs bill is another in a long list of self-defeating examples of the duplicity exposed by his and his party's over-the-top rhetoric that is repeatedly contradicted by liberals' utter lack of willingness to take action against any reality that threatens to 'screw' with their political agenda.

Temporary Jobs Bill Insanity: Obama & Public Sector Demand Funding for Jobs Plan

The Democrats want more of your money to stimulate public sector job growth. Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) thinks that the public sector is taking it on the chin, while the private sector flourishes. Biden and Obama joined the chorus, warning of dirty air and increased crime absent more spending. The Front Page regulars think this is baffling, and they tell you why, reminding us that the Nobel prize went to macro-economists who debunked the effects of stimulus plans.

Kevin McCullough - The 40 Million Jobs Plan

During this past week while President Obama was out campaigning for re-election... (er... I mean "selling his jobs bill") the most indictable evidence of his failure was made evident to all.

The current number of 14 million unemployed wasn't the issue. Though it's a scandal in and of itself.

It is the newly published number in U.S. News and World Report that puts the underemployed at 26 million.
"Put together, almost 26 million Americans are either unemployed, marginally attached to the labor force, or involuntarily working part-time—a number experts say is unprecedented."
Put the two numbers together and 40 million adults or 1 in every 7.5 working age people are without the capacity to work enough to live on in America.

My God, how can we live with ourselves?

Forget the smelly, crime-prone, sleep deprived, weirdos who are currently blaming businesses for the problem. Forget the fact that the President's own party couldn't pass his own laughable "jobs" bill this week on a first try with the least objectionable piece of the plan being put forward.

1 in every 7.5?

Compare that with other revelations this week that yet another controversial "green energy" company got a massive half-billion bailout, this one however located in Finland, and with deep ties to Obama's campaign bundling efforts and you've got the appearance of not just ineptness, but of nepotism, corruption, possibly criminality.

How does the President respond? By siding against the evils of business, and misleadingly imply that he's the champion of the working man. Going so far as to align himself with shout-outs to the occupiers that are obstructing the life of our nation's major cities.

On Thursday this week I asked my facebook followers, listeners, and readers if they deemed the economy a moral or political issue.

The reason I asked, is because generally when you see punditry discuss it, it's always in the context of how it can be manipulated to win elections. "Lower Taxes, boost small business, give the money's people back to the people." Or... "Tax those who aren't doing their fair share, and 'help' people by giving them more funding." Pandering, blatant campaigning, blatant emotional savagery.

But I asked anyway, because from the time I wrote about it in my first book in 2006, and long before then, I've fundamentally seen the economy as the largest moral issue of our time.

If we as a people--the ones empowered to run this nation--do not take active control in the economic development of our nation's future, it is WE who are abandoning our responsibilities and allowing the political savages have their way.

It is my firm belief that there are moral absolutes in economic development for America and one of the most important is one of dignity.

When the day comes and we put our feet on the floor at our bedside each morning, hoping more for someone else to help us, than we are willing to shoulder and help our selves, then we have ceased to be a moral nation. Put another way, expecting others to feed, clothe, house, and bury us is ultimately lazy non-living. And waiting for government to fix it is by definition insanity.

It's not that elections don't count. They do!

It's that we're so darned stupid most election cycles that we fall prey to the belief that the politicians are the ones in charge, when they've never been.

So how do we find enough work for 40 million jobs to be raised to the standard by which people can survive?

The only solution, is by thinking differently about our role in the matter.

Punish the politicians who got us here? Well, replacing them at least?

Yes! Or at least the ones who stand accountable now!

Thinking the next batch will solve all our problems for us?

Never.

If we are dissatisfied with what is happening, then what we need is to enter a season of creativity, ingenuity, productivity and dignity. If politicians can help us in that respect, all the better.

But friends, they probably won't. And then--like certifiably crazy people--we'll be back on the treadmill in four more years.

Personally I'm ready to unplug that treadmill.

Austin Hill - The President's Strange Obsession with Millionaires and Billionaires

If you were posting a Facebook relationship status update about President Obama and rich people, you'd have to check "it's complicated."

On the surface it seems like politics as usual, but in reality it is much more complex.

In the realm of organizational management, conventional wisdom suggests that it is productive for a manager to praise his staffers publicly, and if and when it is necessary to criticize or correct a staffer, to do that privately.

And while it is true the President of the United States is not merely a leader of “an organization,” and the American people are not the President’s staffers, it is nonetheless intriguing that Barack Obama construes his relationship with wealthy Americans in a fashion exactly the opposite of what good management training recommends He vilifies “rich people” publicly, while praising them and thanking them privately.

The past ten days, alone, have provided several examples of this duplicitous behavior. In the September 17thedition of his weekly video and radio address to the nation, President Obama had this to say, in part, about his latest “job creation” legislation:
“…This jobs bill cuts taxes for every small business owner in America.. And it cuts taxes for every working family in America so that you’ll have more money in your pockets…It will create new jobs. It will cut taxes for every American worker…”
This was noteworthy because prior to his September 17th address, President Obama had already stated that his job creation bill would “ask millionaires and billionaires” to pay their “fair share” in taxes, which is his way of saying that he wants to raise taxes on the wealthy (note: government never “asks” anybody to pay taxes – it requires payment, lest one be subject to prosecution). Thus President Obama has juxtaposed “American workers,” “working families,” and “small business owners,” with “millionaires and billionaires” – the first category of us deserve a tax cut, and the latter category – the “millionaires and billionaires” – deserve to have more of their money taken away by the government.

The President’s rhetoric also implies some bizarre attributes of the wealthy. Apparently in President Obama’s view, wealthy Americans don’t work, don’t live in the context of “working families,” and don’t own small businesses. It suggests that they constitute some idle, slovenly, sub-human life form that poses problems which the government must mitigate (is there any wonder why the wealthy aren’t investing in new business start-ups right now?).

But here is an interesting bit of reality that transcends the political rhetoric: President Obama’s job creation bill seeks to raise income taxes and eliminate charitable tax deductions for individuals earning $200,000 a year, and for households earning $250,000 a year. So where do these two-hundred-thousand a year folks fit in to the “working Americans versus millionaires and billionaires” juxtaposition? They obviously don’t fit in with “working Americans,” the category to which the President has already promised tax cuts.

Are they lumped in with the millionaires and billionaires? Certainly a person earning $200,000 a year could amass a million dollars in savings if they lived frugally and saved lots of money for a sufficient number of years, but simply earning this level of annual income does not instantly make one a millionaire.

And why are the millionaires and billionaires lumped together anyway? According to my non-Ivy League mathematics, one has to earn a million dollars a thousand times in order to have a billion dollars. Being a “millionaire” and a “billionaire” are hardly the same thing.

But never mind the simple math of it all. After spouting his lines about lowering taxes for working Americans and small business owners and raising taxes on millionaires and billionaires, President Obama spoke at a fundraiser for his re-election campaign that was held in the private Manhattan home of Jane Hartley, CEO of the Observatory Group LLC, and Ralph Schlosstein, president and CEO of the investment banking firm Evercore Partners Inc.

As you would expect, the President made no reference to his tax increase plans when he spoke to the crowd that paid between $2,500 and $35,800 to see him. But here’s what we don’t know about the President and his audience of rich people: does he suppose that these folks are “working Americans?” Does he consider Ms. Hartley, who heads up an “LLC,” to be a “small business owner?” Does he imagine that any of these people live in “working families?”

Barack Obama’s rhetoric makes for some interesting politics, but it amounts to destructive public policy. And a president who seeks to patronize one section of American society by demonizing another, does a grave disservice to our country.

Doug Giles - Ma, Ma, Ma, My Solyndra

The community where I live is upgrading our Comcast cable services—which means that I won’t have Fox News on the third floor of my hacienda until they get out to my place and give me whatever fancy box I need.

I had no idea how addicted I had become to Fox. I now know what Charlie Sheen must feel like when he’s out of smokes and hookers. It’s rough. Being the pit bull that I am, I’ve been trying to plow on ‘til Comcast comes out by watching MSNBC and the local Miami news.

What I’ve found interesting during this forced Fox hiatus is that none of the stations at the particular times I’ve been watching are saying squat about the breaking $535 million Solyndra scandal which shamefully and directly points to Obama and Biden. Silencio conspicuoso, you know what I mean-o?

What you will hear these twits yodel about are the evil machinations of Rupert Murdoch (who allegedly had poor Sienna Miller’s smutty emails hacked), the dangerous arsenic levels in apple juice, or the possible cronyism behind Rick Perry’s HPV vaccine initiative. As they blather about Rick’s supposed dirty deed, I’m thinkin’, “Cronyism? You want to talk cronyism? Okay, let’s talk Solyndra.”

For those in my ‘hood who temporarily lost Fox during our cable upgrade—or for the poor saps who, for whatever reason, are not hip to the spectacle that is Solyndra—here’s the basic 411 on one of Obama’s half-billion dollar green stimulus babies.
  • Solyndra is—oops, I mean was—a California solar energy company that scored a $535 million taxpayer-funded loan last year from BHO and his boys to save the earth via 1,100 tree humpers in lab coats cranking out solar panels.
  • Prior to hitting the Obama loan lotto, both the President and Biden actually visited Solyndra and hyped it to us plebes as both sliced bread and Christmas for our flailing economy and our future as a super duper power.
  • One year later (like, as in twelve months) after Solyndra had deposited the $535,000,000 check, the company mysteriously went tits up and declared Chapter 11. Oops!
  • Now, the 1,100 workers that Solyndra employed are sitting on their couches eating ramen and watching The Price is Right on their solar paneled TVs while they fill out unemployment docs for more drachmas from China and our great grandchildren’s piggy banks.
  • The coincidence in all this is that when folks started poking around and wondering how a company goes bust during just one season of American Idol after receiving more than half a billion dollars, they found that, lo and behold, the major shareholders and execs of Solyndra were Obama’s buddies who helped fund his ‘08 bid for the White House.
  • One cat, George Kaiser, had even visited the White House 16 times in the last two years—which I believe is 14 more times than Biden has actually been there. What a coincidence that his business would get such a massive check for such a crappy company? Wow. What are the chances?
  • Another interesting ditty is that the loan Kaiser finagled for Solyndra guaranteed George and his pals could recoup their losses in case Solyndra folded, but that the taxpayers would be screwed as far as any retrieval of their cash goes.
  • And all this went down in the face of Solyndra showing five years of $500 million in losses with everybody and their dog screaming at the President not to support the company.
But somehow the aforementioned is not worth mentioning by various news outlets.

Here’s my guess as to why they don’t want to talk about Solyndra: It busts the fantastic fable they’re foisting on us on several different levels. Here are a couple myths it hammers:
  • It shatters the Obama All-Wise Money Spender spell they’re trying to dazzle us with as they queue up to blow through another proposed half trillion dollars we don’t have.
  • It also reeks not of “Hope & Change” but of Chicago-based BS cronyism at its finest.
Welcome, my friends, to the machine. We need some Woodwards and Bernsteins on this thing ASAP.

* Oh, BTW. Please watch The Daily Show’s,Jon Stewart slam dance Obama over Solyndra.

Austin Hill - The Government Does Not Create Jobs, President Obama

If I could get close to President Obama, close enough to speak to him, I’d like to ask him this question: “Mr. President, how, exactly, is a job created?”

It’s a rare opportunity for one to speak directly with the President of the United States, and I’m not anticipating that any of the privileged few who speak with Mr. Obama regularly – members of his Administration and the White House media correspondents for example – will approach this subject with him. But after nearly three years of the President claiming that he is “creating (or ‘saving’) jobs,” even as unemployment rises and actual job creation has stalled, questions about the President’s policies have quite naturally begun to emerge.

Typically the inclination is to ask “where are the jobs you promised us Mr. President?” To this, we have heard the President offer clever responses like “shovel ready wasn’t as..uh…shovel-ready as we expected” (he made this little quip with a chuckle in his voice back in June, at a meeting of his Council on Jobs and Competitiveness in North Carolina when he was confronted with the problems of federal government regulations delaying construction projects for months, or even many years). But Americans need to take a step back, and ask a preliminary question – not a question about “where are the jobs?” but rather, “how is a job supposedly created in the first place?”

President Obama frequently juxtaposes “Wall Street,” i.e., wealthy bankers and investors, from “Main Street,” i.e. everyday working class people, and he insists that his policies are supportive of those on “Main Street.” Given his affection for all us “Main Street types,” he would do well to look to the wisdom of Main Street for an answer to the question “how is a job created?,” and for some clues as to why job growth isn’t happening.

Take for example a Main Street couple named Steve and Gwynn. The married business partners co-own own a small chain of six Mexican food restaurants, with locations in two different Western states. While consulting with them recently on some of their marketing and advertising strategies, I got an earful from them about how the federal government is impacting their business – and the impact has not been positive.

For one, Steve and Gwynn’s greatest struggle with advertising is not about getting customers in to their restaurants. While the past three years have been a struggle for them, their revenues for 2011 have thus far out-paced 2010 on a month-by-month basis, and their Limited Liability Corporation is doing well financially.

Interestingly, Steve and Gwynn’s biggest challenge is with labor. While the hourly rate at which they employ kitchen help is slightly over the government mandated minimum, they still have a difficult time finding and retaining workers for these otherwise “entry level” positions.

Why would American small business owners have difficulty finding workers in an economy that is producing painfully high unemployment? “It’s easier and more lucrative for some adults to collect unemployment benefits than it is to work,” Steve notes. In short, the unemployment benefits provided with a stroke of President Obama’s pen have, at least in Steve and Gwynn’s case severely decreased their labor pool. As for teenagers and young adults (a demographic with severely high unemployment rates) who might be candidates to work at Steve and Gwynn’s restaurants, Gwynn noted to me that “too many kids don’t want to get dirty at work, so even when we hire them they generally don’t stay very long.”

But what happens when a qualified adult applicant is willing to get trained and ready to work – surely a fulltime salaried job is “created” for them, right? “We hire as few fulltime employees as possible” Steve explains. The reason is that they can’t figure out how to fully comply with the Obamacare federal health care laws. “We paid three law firms to consult us on how to comply with that law when it first came up” Steve explains, “and all three firms gave us three different explanations. I think we’re in compliance with our folks right now, but we hire as few full-timers as possible, to reduce our risks of fines incase we’re doing it wrong.”

So Main Street small business owners Steve and Gwynn hire as few full time employees as possible. But that probably means that they are creating more part time jobs, wouldn’t you think? “We know the I.R.S. doesn’t like this” Gwynn notes, acknowledging that the Obama Administration has hired an Army of additional I.R.S. agents to make sure that, among other things, businesses aren’t failing to extend fulltime jobs to people simply as a means of avoiding the healthcare benefits required for full time workers. “We put ourselves at risk if we hire somebody full time, and we’re susceptible to different risks if we hire people part time” she says. “We’re kind of on the run from our government, but we’re doing our best to stay strong.”

President Obama could learn much from everyday small business owners about how genuine, authentic “demand,” and not legislation, is what creates a job. He could also learn why his policies are eliminating them.
