JUNE 30, WASHINGTON--In a lengthy colloquy on the Senate floor today, several Republican Senators called on the Democrat leadership not to waste the Senate's time with trivial matters next week.
Majority Leader Reid announced today he was heeding the Republicans' call to cancel the upper chamber's July 4th recess since no budget work had been done, but it currently remains to be seen if the Majority Leader will attempt to bring up any budget or spending bills. Indeed, in a unanimous consent request today, Majority Leader Reid asked that the chamber take up a resolution dealing with the conflict in Libya.
Republicans, on the other hand, have been insisting that the Senate focus on a budget. As of today, it has been 792 days since the Democrat-led Senate has passed a budget resolution, and they have not introduced one at all this year.
