"You and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We will preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on earth, or we will sentence them to take the first step into a thousand years of darkness. If we fail, at least let our children and our children's children say of us we justified our brief moment here. We did all that could be done."

5.8 Magnitude Earthquake on East Coast of United States

Hundreds of People Flood Streets in Washington, D.C., Compare Shock of Earthquake to 9/11

Following a 5.8 magnitude quake that struck Virginia Tuesday afternoon, buildings in the nation’s capital Washington, D.C. were evacuated as inhabitants fled to safety. One of them was Fox News anchor Bret Baier, who said that many sentiments heard on the ground involved a fear of a terrorist attack on the capital; Baier said those on the streets outside reflected on how the feelings of the earthquake and aftershocks took them back to the feelings directly after 9/11.

Fox News correspondent Doug McKelway reported live on Tuesday’s Special Report from Mineral, Va. – the city in which the epicenter of Tuesday’s 5.9-magnitude earthquake originated. McKelway stood in a grocery store within the town’s borders, where shelves had been knocked over and contents spilled after the quake rocked the city and surrounding area.
