Mitt Romney - Know Your 2012 Candidates

On his first day in office, Romney will submit a jobs package to Congress consisting of at least five major proposals and will demand that Congress act on the package within 30 days, using every power at his disposal to ensure its passage. He will also take immediate and specific steps within his sole authority as president by issuing a series of executive orders that gets the U.S. government out of the economy’s way. The goal: restore America to the path of robust economic growth necessary to create jobs.

Mitt Romney on Principles and Values:
  1. Obama Misery Index: record unemployment & bankruptcies.
  2. Freedom requires religion just as religion requires freedom.
  3. The "Party of No" is ok when it comes to spending.
  4. Liberals replace opportunity with dependency on government.
  5. Favor justices like Roberts, Alito, Scalia, and Thomas.
  6. Washington is broken & can’t deal with many problems.
  7. Valedictorian at Brigham Young University (Mormon).
  8. Bush took on some tough issues and stood for strength.
  9. Firmly pro-life; including Court nominations.
  10. Anti-abortion views have “evolved & deepened” while governor.
Mitt Romney on Jobs:
  1. Ensure that our labor laws create a stable and level playing field on which businesses can operate.
  2. Ensure that workers have the education and skills to match the jobs of today’s economy.
  3. Foster job creation through economic growth.
  4. Seek amendments to the National Labor Relations Act that protect free enterprise, free choice, and free speech.
  5. Put an end to the undemocratic practice of allowing unions to deduct money directly from worker paychecks and spend it on political causes with which the workers may disagree.
  6. Federal policy will be structured to encourage the use of Personal Reemployment Accounts that empower workers to put retraining funds to efficient use.
  7. NLRB cannot constrain companies in their investment decisions.
  8. Guarantee workers the right to receive full innormation about the pros and cons of unionization and then express their own preference in the privacy of the voting booth
  9. Raise the ceiling on the number of visas issued to holders of advanced degrees in math, science, and engineering who have job offers in those fields from U.S. companies
  10. Establish a policy that staples a green card to the diploma of every eligible student visa holder who graduates from an American university with an advanced degree in math, science, or engineering.
Mitt Romney on Economy:
  1. Recipe for fiscal health and a thriving private economy is a government that spends within its means.
  2. Immediately move to cut spending and cap it at 20 percent of GDP.
  3. As spending comes under control, pursue further cuts that would allow caps to be set even lower so as to guarantee future fiscal stability.
  4. Reform Medicaid, converting it to a federal block grant administered by the states.
  5. Pursue a Balanced Budget Amendment to ensure that the out-of-control borrowing and spending of the Obama Administration is never repeated.
  6. Rebuild the foundations of the American economy on the principles of free enterprise, hard work and innovation.
  7. Executive order on Day one to Pave the Way to End ObamaCare.
  8. Executive order on Day one Directing all agencies to immediately initiate the elimination of Obama-era regulations that unduly burden the economy or job creation.
  9. Executive order on Day one Directing the Department of the Interior to implement a process for rapid issuance of drilling permits to developers with established safety records.
  10. Executive order on Day one reversing Executive Orders by President Obama that tilt the playing field in favor of Organized Labor.
Mitt Romney on Gun Control:
  1. Weak on Gun rights.
  2. Campaigning for the Senate in 1994, Romney said he favored strong gun laws and did not “line up with the NRA.”
  3. Ok to ban lethal weapons that threaten police.
  4. Will support assault weapons bill and Brady Bill.
  5. Supports Second Amendment rights but also assault weapon ban.
  6. I support the work of the NRA, but disagree sometimes.
  7. Signed up for “lifetime membership” of the NRA in August 2006 while pondering a presidential run.
Mitt Romney on Immigration:
  1. Likes legal immigration; let business determine visas.
  2. Illegal immigrants should go home eventually.
  3. No mandatory prison term for employers who hire illegals.
  4. Avoid chain migration; disallow families from one citizen.
  5. FactCheck: MA state cops never enforced immigration laws.
  6. FactCheck: Took no action against 4 Mass. sanctuary cities.
  7. Proposed Z visa allows illegal aliens to stay in America.
  8. Make English national language; communicate in Spanish too.
  9. Tuition breaks encourage illegal immigration.
  10. Reduce federal funding to sanctuary cities.
Mitt Romney on Homeland Security:
  1. Best to not say whether waterboarding is torture or not.
  2. Use both military & diplomatic actions to defeat Jihadists.
  3. Wiretap mosques to keep tabs on Islamic extremists.
  4. No Miranda rights for suicide bombers.
  5. Not wise for us to describe our interrogation techniques.
  6. Lawyers are the last people to ask about war decisions.
  7. FBI wiretaps and spying on immigrants OK.
  8. Jihadists attack to destroy all moderate governments.
  9. Islamic terror has nothing to do with US policy of bases.
  10. Closing Guantanamo leaves America vulnerable to another 9/11.
Mitt Romney on National Security:
  1. Never, ever supported specific timetable for exit from Iraq.
  2. Stay in Afghanistan until our generals say to leave.
  3. It was the right decision to go into Iraq.
  4. Staying in Iraq protects lives of American citizens.
  5. Right to invade Iraq, but not what came after.
  6. Don’t decide policy by polls; don’t leave Iraq precipitously.
  7. Bush gave inadequate rationale for Iraq war.
  8. You attack US and we respond; but use nonmilitary too.
  9. Let lawyers decide if authorization needed to attack Iran.
  10. To Jihadists, democracy is blasphemous since people make law.
