Doug Giles - Don’t Forward This Breitbart Painting to the Occupiers or Media Matters

“We shape our buildings; thereafter they shape us.”

—Winston Churchill

Art is powerful. Through art nations have been swayed toward greatness … and toward Obama. Via the arts souls have been lifted and wars have been waged. There’s no mistaking the mighty leverage art wields on people and lands.

For instance, on a personal level, my buddy Hambone Tweedle lives in a house that his wife has decorated with Hello Kitty swag, ubiquitous doilies and posters of fat baby angels who look like they’re stoned out of their gourd on Robitussin. His flat looks like Jan Crouch, Ross Matthews and Gianni Versace’s ghost had an open-ended interior design budget and went flippin’ nuts on the place. The home he’s henpecked to dwell in is a ghastly chick hell. The place screams, “This is no place for old men!” He’s emasculated. It’s a fait accompli for his cojones.

From a national standpoint, do you wanna know why folks in Communist nations are depressed and are forced at gunpoint to smile when U.S. cameras are rolling? Well, one reason, aside from the mediocre hell Communism spawns, is their art. It’s hard to feel chipper when the only works of art you behold are giant prints of the inbred dictator and the utilitarian gray block buildings he skimped on so he could have gold toilets in his 90-room mansion.

Art, as Churchill stated, shapes us. Good art lifts our spirits, opens mental doors, takes us to a happy place and/or gives us an attitude. That’s why I have a painting of a big middle finger in my foyer. Just kidding. I don’t have a big middle finger in my foyer. It’s actually in the stairwell.

Seriously, in the Giles Manor I have trophy animals and paintings of trophy animals, African warriors and Native American Indian warriors adorning my walls. Why do I have such a man cave? Well, one reason I have it so designed is we have three women in the house, and I’ve got to do something to offset all the bras and panties strewn everywhere. In addition, these awesome animals and warriors feed my soul. When I gaze at them it makes me feel stupid and weak when I whine like a 12-year-old girl if I don’t get my way.

Being fascinated with butt kicking beasts and people, I was duly impressed when I saw the digital painting that artist David Bugnon (Boo-nyon) did of the late Andrew Breitbart. David absolutely knocked it out of the park with his painting depicting Andrew as the consummate intellectual warrior that he was.

When it came to the cause of truth, Breitbart was one in a million: a provocateur par excellence. I saw his combatant spirit up close and personal when he and my family went through the 2009 ACORN scandal that my daughter Hannah Giles stirred up via her investigation.

Yep, Andrew would happily fight people, organizations and governments with tooth, fang and claw if he sensed any anti-American, BS-laden sentiments stemming from said lemmings, and Bugnon’s piece captures AB’s essence as a contrarian: confident and geared-up.

Look, I’m not a big fan of having paintings of contemporaries on my wall—especially paintings of other men; however, I’ve made room on my wall for a nice reproduction of Bugnon’s painting because I admire, appreciate and wish to emulate the moxie Andrew perfected for that which is just and true. I think I’ll put my print by my front door so as I depart my house and dive into the cultural trenches I will be ever mindful, thanks to Andrew’s example, that there are things worth scrapping for—and America’s founding docs are definitely one of them.

*Check out Bugnon’s painting: “Andrew Breitbart: I Am Compelled to Fight” here. 50% of David’s profits go to The Andrew Breitbart Children’s Trust.

Why Do Liberals Hate Andrew Breitbart?

Andrew Breitbart (February 1, 1969 – March 1, 2012) was an American publisher, commentator for The Washington Times, author, and occasional guest commentator on various news programs, who served as an editor for the Drudge Report website. He was a researcher for Arianna Huffington, and helped launch her web publication The Huffington Post.

He ran his own news aggregation site, Breitbart.com, and five other websites: Breitbart.tv, Big Hollywood, Big Government, Big Journalism, and Big Peace. He played key roles in the Anthony Weiner sexting scandal, the resignation of Shirley Sherrod, and the ACORN 2009 undercover videos controversy.

Doug Giles - The Seven Videos That Could Destroy Obama’s Reelection Bid

This past week Breitbart.com released a video of a young Obama singing the praises of a race-baiting prof from Harvard. I hate to say this, but I don’t think that particular video is going to dissuade the Obama zombies or the blissfully disengaged from voting for four more years of this fetid mess.

Why the pessimism, you ask? Well, it’s not because the incriminating video is not significant; it clearly is, as it once again establishes BHO’s deep allegiance to the lunatic fringe on the Left. However, his step-n-fetch voting block shares his diehard Euro-socialistic beliefs and does not mind 48 more months of an economic maelstrom at all if it means free candy for them for the rest of their mediocre, jealous lives.

Therefore, not only is that video not going to convert any of them, it will probably have the adverse effect of inciting more economic stupidity and racial bigotry by turning the ones who can read onto the mad scribblings of Derrick Bell and his bellicose beliefs.

Those of the apathetic middle who are paying minimal attention to our political milieu are not going to care enough to watch a 1991 video of Obama talking about crap they’re dispassionate about; they’re more concerned about whether or not Kim Kardashian’s butt is real, and besides, Soledad O’Brien has already told them that there is nothing to the videos. Move along, cattle. Move along.

What Breitbart.com and others have to dig up on Obama has to be so outlandish (like the infamous ACORN videos) that it completely derails the Obama love train and causes his fawners and the American Idol idiots to say, “Ew,” when it comes to voting for him this November.

For example, I’d be on the lookout for pictures, videos or documents such as the following …
  1. A photograph of a young Obama kissing a Sarah Palin poster in his dorm room.
  2. A video of a 22-year-old Barack clubbing a baby seal with a ball-peen hammer and/or shooting a polar bear with a .416 Rigby.
  3. A video of a youthful BHO slow dancing with Lynne Cheney to Air Supply’s 1980 hit, “I’m All Out of Love.”
  4. A dredged-up Occidental essay of Obama’s praising de Tocqueville’s tome, Democracy in America.
  5. A 1999 video of Barack sitting in the front row of a Blue Collar Comedy show in D.C.
  6. A photograph of the interior of Obama’s house with décor from Anthropologie.
  7. A video of Barack stealing Sandra Fluke’s condoms she has stockpiled in her dorm then poking a hole in her waterbed and cutting the electric cord to her bedside lava lamp.
These videos, photos and documents alone would be the only empirical evidence that would shatter the spell the Obama machine has used to voodoo the gullibale GP.

No, it doesn’t matter that communist groups, terrorist organizations, or race-baiting preachers and professors endorse him. It’s not important that his economic policies are the failed derivatives of Karl Marx’s, or that gas is heading toward six bucks a gallon, or that his favorite author actually dedicated his book to Lucifer. None of these things faze the Obama fanatics, so I’m afraid investigative journalists are going to have to try harder and dig deeper.

Star Parker - Breitbart's Final Message to the Left

If you think about it, Andrew Breitbart’s untimely passing from this life, at the age of 43, might be seen as the ultimate message that this man of media could deliver.

Bretibart famously used his media talent, particularly his facility with new media and new journalism, to fight the agenda of the left.

And what could strike more effectively at the heart of the premises of the left than the inscrutable death of a young and prodigiously talented and successful man, still scaling the heights of achievement, husband and father to four young children.

The fact is that the inconceivable and the unanticipated is the rule of our lives rather than the exception. Nothing more clearly defines the line which separates the political left from the political right than appreciation of this fact.

The left, after all, is about the pretense of planning, power, and control. It’s about the belief that man – political man – can define and control the world and can appoint himself the final authority to determine what is fair and mete out justice.

The first words on this subject were spoken by the serpent to Eve about the prohibition on eating fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

“You will not surely die,” the serpent told Eve, “for God knows that on the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

In his new book Coming Apart, social scientist Charles Murray provides a troubling snapshot of America, showing the correspondence of the collapse of traditional values to our growing problems in economics and achievement.

Murray quotes a nineteenth century European immigrant to America, Francis Grund, who anticipated exactly what is happening today:

“Change the domestic habits of Americans, their religious devotion, and their high respect for morality, and it will not be necessary to change a single letter of the Constitution in order to vary the whole form of their government.”

With today’s obsession about the growing gap between those who earn the most and earn the least, Murray looks at what is happening in white America, eliminating the variable of race. He shows that the elites – those earning in the top 20% - by and large still have families intact and have the lowest incidence of out-of-wedlock births and single parent homes.

In contrast, communities earning in the bottom 30% have had high erosion since the 1960’s in behavior reflecting traditional values, with marriage and family collapsing and high and growing incidence of out-of-wedlock births.

Although Murray just focuses on white America, his conclusions mirror what I have been talking and writing about for 20 years regarding destruction of black communities by welfare state government programs.

It’s not an accident that the welfare state growth took off in the 1960’s, the decade of the sexual revolution, the pill, and shortly therefore, legalization of abortion under all circumstances.

In this new culture of materialism, the politicians of the left claimed they could understand everything and solve all our problems – with other people’s money, of course.

They could build programs to eliminate poverty, eliminate the problems and vagaries of aging, and deliver health care to everyone.

Now today these problems remain. Except now we’re hanging on the thread of bankruptcy, tens of trillions in debt trying to substitute government and other people’s money to deal with problems that can only be solved by a free and responsible people.

The left hates Breitbart for his effectiveness in getting out the truth.

It’s the same culture that forces me to get police protection to talk about personal responsibility on college campuses.

The final irony is that truth and compassion come from humility not pride. Sadly, a cold and cruel left will not grasp this truth from Breitbart’s unexpected death.

Doug Giles - How I Came to Admire Andrew Breitbart

Unlike many of Breitbart’s friends and admirers who initiated a relationship with him, I was forced to relate with him. And I don’t like being forced to do anything.

I initially met Andrew Breitbart over the phone when I called him on September 8, 2009. That was the day before my daughter Hannah’s scandalous ACORN videos were released on the public’s head.

Andrew was on the road, and I was in Vail about to speak at a men’s conference and wanted to know, from a man I didn’t know, if he was going to make certain my girl would be “safe” in every sense of the word because the ACORNs were fixin’ to hit the fan.

Having seen several of Hannah’s devastating undercover vids and knowing the weight of what was about to land on my 20-year-old, I told Andrew that if he allowed anything bad to happen to Hannah that I would hurt him. And I did not mean that metaphorically.

Breitbart said he would defend Hannah with his life and treat her as if she were his own daughter. I thought, “good answer,” and with that we began a relationship and went through a tornadic, grueling, and thrilling war against a corrupt organization and a crooked media that covers and defends such sleaze.

Every step of the way, through vicious, non-stop media attacks, death threats to our family, and multiple lawsuits, Breitbart kept his word to me and ran interference for Hannah and the ACORN story like a champion. He made certain that the proper people got crushed and the truth tellers remained afloat.

As stated, I didn’t meet Andrew as a fan; I met him as a father who doesn’t give a rat’s backside about celebrity in the conservative movement—the reason being that I’ve met a lot of them and have yet to be duly impressed by most. (The majority are preening narcissists who’d skin their granny if it would get them on Hannity. Call me jaded.)

Therefore, when Hannah’s fantastic work propelled her into a world with a lot of Slim Shadies, suffice it to say my claws were out. Andrew, however, made my talons retract because he kept his word to me (and then some), which moved me from being a skeptic to an ally of that wild-haired heat-seeking missile named Andrew Breitbart.

Here’s my takeaway from a man I didn’t seek to meet but am sure glad I did:

  • As stated, Breitbart kept his word and stayed in the volatile fray with Hannah just like he promised. Few people keep their word nowadays.

  • To Andrew, crap was crap no matter how one framed it. Andrew was an equal opportunity offender. Everything smells, so attitude sells.

  • Breitbart was bold. Would to God more men who love God and country had his moxie. AB was a provocateur par excellence.

  • He inspired young people who are sick of lies, hype and spin to take their talent and tools and use them against the tools of the machine.

  • Andrew understood the importance of conservatives getting involved in Hollywood and not just in DC.

  • Breitbart, by example, showed us all that if you aren’t drawing enemy fire then you’re not over the target.

  • If you didn’t agree with Andrew on all the issues, he was okay with that and reveled in robust discussions over cold beer.
  • Lastly, I’m not going to pretend that I was super close to Andrew because I wasn’t. Once the ACORN dust settled we spoke just a few times over the phone, on my show and in DC. That said, I was close enough and our relationship was under enough duress that we had to trust each other and navigate serious rapids. I’m here to tell you that I found Breitbart to be a man of integrity who walked what he talked.

Finally, if I were one of Breitbart’s enemies I wouldn’t rest too comfortably on my laurels because he passed away. Why? Well, you see, he’s got hundreds of thousands of people whom he inspired by example to be bold in the cause of truth. From the noise I hear on Facebook and Twitter, this party is just getting started. Release the hounds …

Thp Videos - Andrew Breitbart at CPAC 2012

Perhaps moreso than many of the conference’s guests over the years, Andrew Breitbart has emerged as a uniquely revered figure at CPAC, partly for his ability to work the CPAC crowd over the job President Obama has done while in office. But much of it has to do with his work at CPAC outside of his speeches– his support of diversity in the conservative movement, his ability to engage just about anybody.
