It is time to expose the hypocrisy and intolerance of GLAAD, which is really the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Disagreement (not Defamation), as I have pointed out many times before. Not only does GLAAD seek to silence or discredit opposing voices, but it also praises those who attack those voices, even in the most vulgar and crass ways.
This sums up the duplicity of GLAAD: It urges the media to beware of conservative Christian leaders like Chuck Colson, Maggie Gallagher, and Tony Perkins, even calling on CNN to ban some of them from appearing on their shows, and then gives its first Outstanding Blog award to the JoeMyGod website, famous for entries like this one (from March 5, 2012), which mockingly tells readers that if they follow the directions of a particular, outspoken Christian leader “and squint and clench and pray SUPER hard for Super Tuesday, then maybe He'll make sure that a true earthly spokesmodel for the Holy Dead Zombie gets into office. But please be brief. God is SUPER busy killing babies and giving people cancer.” And this earns praise from GLAAD.
Last week, GLAAD launched its Commentator Accountability Project (CAP), which “aims to put critical information about frequent anti-gay interviewees into the hands of newsrooms, editors, hosts and reporters. . . . Have you seen these anti-LGBT voices in your local media? Let GLAAD know today.”
GLAAD singled out 36 “anti-gay interviewees,” stating in a follow-up article that, “‘accountability’ does not necessarily mean keeping these people out of the media. But if a reporter is interviewing someone who insinuates that his or her political opponent is controlled by the devil, it’s the reporter’s journalistic responsibility to put that person’s opinion in perspective.”
(As an aside, I had to smile at GLAAD’s selection of 36 commentators, since according to Jewish tradition, there are always 36 righteous people in the world, because of whose merit the world is not destroyed. How ironic!)
Among the 36 “anti-gay interviewees” were Southern Baptist leader Albert Mohler, Catholic leader Bill Donohue, Brian Brown and Maggie Gallagher (the National Organization of Marriage), Jim Daly, Candi Cushman, and Glenn Stanton (Focus on the Family), Chuck Colson (Breakpoint), Don Wildmon and Tim Wildmon (the American Family Association), political pundit Gary Bauer, Bishop Harry Jackson, World Net Daily’s Joseph Farah, Mat Staver and Matt Barber (Liberty Counsel and Liberty University), Peter Sprigg and Tony Perkins (the Family Research Council), Princeton Professor Robert George, and yours truly.
Each name was linked to a personalized page, citing quotes which allegedly demonstrated our bigoted anti-gay views, like Chuck Colson’s statement that homosexual behavior was more dangerous to one’s health than smoking or Robert George’s questioning of New York governor Andrew Cuomo’s commitment to Catholicism in light of his ardent support for same-sex marriage. Yes, according to GLAAD, the media needs to be aware of such dangerous, extremist viewpoints.
At the same time, GLAAD honors men like Joe Jervis, whose JoeMyGod website contains tags describing Christian leaders as “con men, evil, frauds, liars, scam artists, and douchenozzels,” among those tags that can even be listed here.
The JoeMyGod website is also used as a rallying point to target others in the most vulgar and profane ways. I know this firsthand, since it was Joe Jervis’s website that helped launch a short-lived (and ultimately unsuccessful) campaign against my book A Queer Thing Happened to America. Commenters joined the attack with posts like these: “Boys and girls, it's time to tag-spam. Have at it: [with a link to the listing on Amazon]”; and, “Tag bomb it like Sally Kern's book,” and “Make sure you leave appropriate tags on the Amazon book review. My favorites ‘author loves rimming’ and ‘guide to fisting.’” (Note that these comments were never removed from the website.)
So, in the upside-down world of GLAAD, blogs like this are praiseworthy while men like Chuck Colson and Robert George are not worthy to share their views on the air. This is nothing less than a hypocritical witch hunting campaign by GLAAD, and a poorly executed one at that.
And for those who claim that GLAAD is not trying to engage in censorship, note well that at the end of 2010, GLAAD launched a petition drive urging “CNN to Make a New Year's Resolution: Keep Away From the Anti-Gay Industry.” Yes, said GLAAD, “It's time for outlets to finally drop several hundred pounds of unhealthy weight, which they've been carrying around for years, in the form of anti-gay activists. . . . CNN and the rest of the media are doing nothing but exposing their viewers to dangerous anti-gay rhetoric when they invite members of these anti-gay groups onto their programming. Starting in 2011, this needs to stop.”
This must be labeled for what it is, namely, bigotry, intolerance, and attempted censorship, which is why – to repeat yet again – I say that we recognize GLAAD for what it is: the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Disagreement.

Liberal theologian William Ellery Channing once observed, “The cry has been that when war is declared, all opposition should be hushed. A sentiment more unworthy of a free country could hardly be propagated.”
War has indeed been declared. Channing’s contemporary liberal counterparts have declared a war for our culture. But while Channing presumably held to the oft-bandied supposition that “dissent is the highest form of patriotism,” today’s secular-progressive has no choice but to endeavor that “all opposition should be hushed.”
Liberals recognize that when arguing on the merits, they cannot prevail. Not only are their morally relative, redistributionist philosophies untenable and utopian, but they read the same polls demonstrating that reasonable people reject their ideas outright. In fact, Americans identify as conservative over liberal by a two-to-one margin. Even those who call themselves “moderate” lean conservative.
It makes sense. The “progressive” movement wars against natural law, pushes perpetually failed secular-socialist policies and places — above constitutionally safeguarded individual liberty — thickheaded tenets of postmodern political correctness. Liberal elites demand tolerance for all things perverse and find intolerable all things righteous.
And so, the final, desperate act of the left-wing, lemon-hocking charlatan is to marginalize, smear and ultimately shut down the competition. As a result, liberals obfuscate, propagandize and strive to silence all dissent. They no longer even try to hide it.
The evidence of this calculated assault on free speech is overwhelming, but the most recent and high-profile examples include carefully orchestrated campaigns by three well-funded, interconnected, George Soros-linked organizations: Media Matters for America (MMFA); the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC); and the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD).
After years of trying to censor the conservative voice of Rush Limbaugh, for instance, the George Soros-funded Media Matters recently pulled out all the stops to get him booted from the airwaves.
The pretext was Limbaugh’s unfortunate word choice in describing Georgetown “reproductive justice” radical Sandra Fluke’s attempt to compel the Jesuit university to violate its own Catholic doctrine. Democrats held a mock hearing in the Capitol building wherein Fluke demanded that Georgetown underwrite her admitted fornication practices and fork out free birth control. Limbaugh said this made her sound like a “sl*t” and a “prostitute.”
The hard-left Media Matters pounced, rolling out a pre-packaged campaign against Limbaugh. It has targeted radio stations with ads and continues a floundering crusade to get Limbaugh’s radio sponsors to drop him. Ironically, this has resulted in a revenue increase for Limbaugh, and his already millions-strong listening audience has grown significantly.
Another example of this Orwellian censorship crusade involves the Alabama-based Southern Poverty Law Center, an outfit that, until recent years, was viewed as a relatively credible civil rights organization. Unfortunately, the SPLC has now cashed in most of its remaining political capital, taking the same cynical path as its fellow travelers over at Media Matters. The SPLC too has become little more than a mouthpiece for left-wing extremism.
In a “too cute by half” attempt to marginalize those who observe the traditional Judeo-Christian sexual ethic, or who embrace a constitutionalist view of government, the SPLC has moved from monitoring actual hate groups like the KKK and Neo-Nazis, to slandering mainstream Christian and tea party organizations with that very same “SPLC-certified hate group” label. Indeed, in its promotional materials and on its website, the SPLC indiscriminately lumps well-respected, highly influential Christian organizations like the Family Research Council and the American Family Association together with domestic terrorist and white supremacist groups.
But the SPLC’s transparent guilt-by-false-association ploy has largely backfired. Whereas the strategy was intended to discourage media outlets from engaging these Christian groups, the scheme has, instead, had the unintended effect of significantly marginalizing the SPLC. You can only cry wolf so many times before people ignore you.
Finally, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has picked up where the SPLC left off. This radical homosexual pressure group recently ramped up its tried-and-true practice of employing the very outrage it purports to oppose: defamation.
One of the left’s favorite pejoratives is “McCarthyism,” yet liberals employ it — as they mean it — masterfully. In an effort to strong-arm mainstream media outlets — already sympathetic to their cause — into blacklisting, once and for all, conservative and Christian professionals who oppose liberal sexual identity politics, GLAAD has issued an enemies list of 36 top pro-family leaders and luminaries (a list upon which yours truly is most honored and humbled to be included).
Engaging a scheme eerily reminiscent of the former Soviet Union, GLAAD’s euphemistically and paradoxically tagged “Commentator Accountability Project” enlists fellow progressives to dutifully report on a designated website anytime a pundit identified on the blacklist appears in media.
Because “hate is not an expert opinion,” GLAAD then takes the reports and browbeats the offending media outlet into disengaging the “inappropriate” conservative pundit.
As feeble justification for its censorship efforts, GLAAD provides a list of out-of-context, cherry-picked quotes — some accurate, some not — the organization finds offensive. This is paint-by-numbers, Saul Alinsky style: Rule 12, “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it and polarize it.”
In their manuscript, “After the Ball: How America Will Conquer Its Fear and Hatred of Gays in the ’90s” (1989, Doubleday/Bantam), Harvard-educated marketing experts Marshall Kirk and Hunter Madsen meticulously laid out GLAAD’s approach — something they called “jamming.”
“Jamming” refers to the public smearing of Christians, traditionalists or anyone else who opposes left-wing sexual identity politics. “Jam homo-hatred [i.e., the Judeo-Christian sexual ethic] by linking it to Nazi horror,” wrote Kirk and Madsen (sound familiar, SPLC?). They go on to suggest that activists should try to associate all who oppose homosexuality with images of “Klansmen demanding that gays be slaughtered,” “hysterical backwoods preachers,” “menacing punks” and “Nazi concentration camps where homosexuals were tortured and gassed.’”
“In any campaign to win over the public, gays must be portrayed as victims in need of protection so that straights will be inclined by reflex to adopt the role of protector,” they wrote. “The purpose of victim imagery is to make straights feel very uncomfortable.”
George Orwell famously said: “During times of universal deceit, telling the truth becomes a revolutionary act.” Today, conservative truth tellers are revolutionaries, fighting a guerilla war against an elitist establishment that blankets free speech with bunker-buster bombs.
Their motives are disgraceful, their tactics are cowardly and their actions are un-American. But these things rank high among the progressive “book of virtues.”
Paraphrasing Voltaire, British author Evelyn Beatrice Hall wrote, “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”
It’s little wonder that today’s progressives reject this noble sentiment. The success of the left-wing socio-political agenda relies upon deliberate suppression of the reality-based conservative alternative.
You don’t know me but you should. I’m an angry white guy. As a white guy, I’m angry a lot. But today, I’m even angrier than usual. So you should probably put me on your list of dangerous persons. Given that I might have a mental breakdown at any moment, you should probably go ahead and designate me as hate group. I feel a strong case of multiple personality disorder coming on. Yes I do. No you don’t. Oh, shut up and let him talk!
The Gay and Lesbian Alliance against Defamation (GLAAD) Commentator Accountability Project came out to the media earlier this month. As you know, this project aims to put “critical information” about “anti-gay interviewees” into the hands of “newsrooms, editors, hosts and reporters” who “don’t often have the time to dig into the histories of a commentator.” In other words, it is a branch of the Gaystapo using Nazi tactics to ban those who disagree with them from appearing in the media. I call it pink-listing. This is not to be confused with pink-lisping, which refers to the tendency of homosexuals to develop speech impediments as soon as they come out of the closet.
The GLAAD project seeks to pink-list those “comparing LGBT people to Nazi Germany, predicting that equal treatment of LGBT people will lead to the total collapse of society, and even making accusations of satanic influence.” As you can see, I am one of the people in the media who likes to accuse GLBT people (Gilberts), GBLT people (Giblets), and TLGB people (Total-goobers) of being like Nazis. Despite this, I’ve been excluded from the list. What is wrong with these people? Are they trying to destroy decent society? Or has Satan finally overtaken their twisted souls?
The Commentator Accountability Project claims it is “bringing all of these statements to light while calling attention to the sentiment behind them.” That’s just not true. I’ve made plenty of statements against Gilberts, Giblets, and Total-goobers that have been overlooked by GLAAD. They need to call attention to these statements so they can know what’s going on behind them. Even when they aren’t in prison, gays should always know what’s going on behind them!
Although they say that their list of 25 commentators “represent nothing but extreme animus towards the entire LGBT community” they are wrong. Some of them are actually pretty nice. In fact, they are way nicer than I am. So I’m writing today to argue that GLAAD should also be designated as a hate group for including these nice people on their pink-list. More importantly, they should be designated as a hate group for refusing to include me!
Michael Brown: Are you kidding me? I met Michael Brown last summer at Summit Ministries. He and his wife are really nice people. I spoke to him for at least thirty minutes and he didn’t make any gay jokes. He’s a pathetic excuse for a gay-basher. He should be thrown off the list immediately.
Chuck Colson: Please! I once wrote a “recommending reading” column that featured one of his books. He was so nice that he sat down and wrote me a very long personal letter of thanks. There was not one single reference to “homos” in the entire letter. It was pathetic, really. He’s undeserving. Take him off the list!
Maggie Gallagher: Stop picking on girl. That’s just gay. Next, please.
Kevin McCullough: What a joke. I once heard him correct a Baylor University professor for being too “harsh” in a debate with a homosexual. No one who stands up for civility in debate with homosexuals deserves to be on this list. I thought the Baylor professor was right so I deserve to be on this list. Plus, someone told me McCullough likes some of Elton John’s older music. I think that counts for something.
Jennifer Roback Morse: This woman called me a “meanie” on Facebook last week. So even she knows I’m meaner and more deserving of a pink-listing. Didn’t I tell you guys to quit picking on girls?
Frank Turek: This guy is the biggest joke of them all. I should know because we’re really good friends. What bothers me about his inclusion on (and my exclusion from) the pink-list is that I’ve helped nurture his anti-gay reputation. Remember my columns “The Cisco Kid” and “Bank of Gay America?” They highlighted the times Turek was fired from consulting gigs in corporate America just because he wrote a book opposing same-sex marriage. Don’t I get at least some credit for writing about Turek’s misadventures in an inflammatory way?
And, speaking of inflammatory, what about some of my column titles on homosexuality; “The Old Rugged Cross-Dresser,” “Big Fat Appalachian Drag Queens,” “Fat Lesbians on Crack,” “Perversity and Diversity at my Little University,” and “It Ain’t Over Till the Fat Lesbian sings”? What exactly do I need to do to get pink listed by these people? I even call them “these people” but to no avail.
In short, I have been unfairly excluded by a group that claims to be inclusive. You guys at SPLC are experts in making main-stream people appear radical enough to blacklist. So I thought I would turn to you for some advice. If you think of any, please do not hesitate to write. Until then, I’m headed to the cigar shop to smoke a couple of fags.
