Jeannie DeAngelis - Sasha and Malia Obama ‘Learn What They Live’

Originally posted at American Thinker
If it’s really true that “children learn what they live,” then the First Daughters are learning how to be highbrow aristocrats whose extravagances are enjoyed without embarrassment, in full view and at the expense of the suffering. That’s right, “the suffering,” because notwithstanding the onslaught of Obamaganda, most people in America today, thanks to Sasha and Malia’s Dad, are suffering in one way or another.

Meanwhile, when it comes to showering themselves with the perks of the good life, the Obamas exercise zero restraint. In fact, three months into the second term, they’re actually outdoing themselves. Not only that, but the elitist lifestyle the first family lives has a vindictive in-your-face, so-what-if-you-don’t-like-it edge to it that smacks of spiteful arrogance. Therefore, Sasha and Malia are learning what their liberal parents teach them, and that is to convey the following message to the unwashed masses: “Do as I say and I’ll do what I want, and I’ll do it with your money.”

And for all of Barack’s $900K Florida golf weekends, and more importantly, Michelle’s alleged $10 million vacations, haute couture, and overpaid personal staff, the tragic victims of their selfishness and insensitive lack of fiscal restraint are Sasha and Malia.

It’s common knowledge that in the Obama household, babies are sometimes considered punishment while abortion is a treasured right. Attending church is a twice-a-year photo op and vacations, since the first of the year, average out to be a once-a-month priority. While Dad and Mom talk the talk about sharing, fairness, and self-sacrifice, in their own lives they exhibit none of these qualities. Consequently, the Obama youngsters are learning through observation that concern over appearing selfish, godless, and hypocritical should be dismissed.

Meanwhile, the girls’ mother Michelle spends more time than she should proselytizing parents about their children’s BMIs, diet, and exercise. Sadly, what Mrs. Obama doesn’t seem to recognize is that plump children who possess the character traits she lacks will fare better in life than slender, vegetable-eating youngsters who are indifferent, self-absorbed, and snotty- the very qualities she exhibits, and are at the core of the example she sets for her daughters.

Although they live in a pampered, fairytale environment, the First Daughters are neither too young nor too insulated to be unaware that 48,000,000 Americans are on food stamps and that 12 million are unemployed, 23% of whom are either black or Hispanic. That’s why, rather than flaunt the next 17-day, $4-million family jaunt to Hawaii, Obama should request that Air Force One head out to California – not to visit George Clooney and Eva Longoria, but to school his daughters about the harsh effect 9.8% unemployment is having on the Golden State.

Nonetheless, as a casual observer of a seemingly insatiable appetite for all things swanky and sumptuous, one can’t help but wonder, do Mr. and Mrs. Obama ever reflect upon what they are teaching their impressionable children about life? In three months they’ve gone from the balmy isle of Oahu, Hawaii to the bunny slopes of Aspen, Colorado. Sasha and Malia even watched from afar as Dad the Duffer golfed in Florida for a cool million with the philandering Tiger Woods.

Now, in the middle of a fiscal cliff/sequester crisis, without a care in the world the Obama girls have been led to believe that having staffers drag luggage stuffed with designer duds onto Marine One and helicoptering off to Paradise Island for five days is an acceptable choice to make. Moreover, despite an economy on the edge of collapse, the Obama princesses probably can’t help but believe that airplanes costing hundreds of thousands of dollars an hour to fly are there mainly to transport them to fun locales.

Last spring, Malia Obama’s trip to Mexico allegedly cost taxpayers $115,500.87. This year, the two sisters are at a Caribbean resort being chauffeured around in a motorcade and “escorted to the held elevator,” accompanied by “a gaggle of friends.” Sans parents, Sasha and Malia are vacationing at the Atlantis, home to the Royal Tower Bridge Suite that goes for $25,000 per night. These tender-aged adolescents are accompanied by Secret Service agents who stand on the sidelines as they dance, giggle, and hang out at Club Crush, which for “teens ages 13 to 17 and tweens ages 9 to 13 vacationing on Paradise Island…[is the] ultimate nightclub.”

Meanwhile, the rest of America’s children, some of whom had humble spring break plans to ride in the family van to Washington DC, watch with their faces pressed against the wrought iron railing surrounding a closed White House. These schoolchildren are the disappointed victims of a sequester decision Barack Obama made while Sasha and Malia were preparing to party their little hearts out on a trip financed mostly with taxpayer money.

If anything, the life Sasha and Malia are living proves a few things – not about them, but about their parents – none of which are good. Most specifically, the First Couple are either profoundly arrogant, profoundly stupid or, most probably, profoundly indifferent to the effect their behavior may have on their daughters. Unfortunately, if Sasha and Malia Obama are truly learning what they live, then while their lives may be good in the material sense, the life lessons they’re learning are not.

Katie Pavlich - The Obama's Lavish Lifestyle

He did it First Argument

The "He did it First Argument" is supposed to be relegated to children who are bullies and have not been 'Parented Properly'.

When a spoiled little 'Narcissistic Child' is asked 'Why did you hit your little sister?' - the expected response is 'She hit me first'.

When a spoiled little 'Narcissistic Child' is confronted about 'Why did you take your little brothers toy?' - the expected response is 'He took my toy first'.

Liberal Progressives are 'Trapped in Limbo', with the mind of a 'Spoiled Narcissistic Child' and an adult body.

When these Liberal Progressive 'Spoiled Narcissistic Children' are asked 'Why is Barack Obama living such a lavish lifestyle and taking so many vacations using taxpayer money'? - the expected response is 'George Bush or someone else did it first'.

Exactly how does the 'Someone Else Did It First Argument' justify Barack Obama's actions or the actions of anyone else?

NOTE: Apologies to all 'Spoiled Narcissistic Children' because unlike Liberal Progressives they haven't had a chance to grow up yet.

PJTV Trifecta - What Sequester - Obama and Biden Live Like Roman Emperors on Public Dime

President Obama spent weeks scaring America into believing that the sequester would destroy the American economy, and result in draconian budget cuts. This has not stopped the President or Vice President from taking lavish vacations, and using government planes to fly short distances. While Obama cancelled White House tours, closed FAA towers, and refused to refuel aircraft carriers, this has not stopped Biden from spending millions on hotels, air travel and more. Jeannie DeAngelis - America’s Vicarious Christmas Vacation

Originally posted at American Thinker
President Barack Obama needs a break. It’s tiring and takes a tremendous amount of effort to dismantle 250 years of what made America the great nation we once were. So, in anticipation of leaving the drudgery of governing behind, Obama abandoned the wrecking ball he’s been swinging for the last four years, left the 54 holiday trees that lost their lives in the White House, and jetted off with the wife, the kids and the dog for their nine-hour flight to Oahu.

Before Americans get all bent out of shape about the frivolous nature of the time and money involved in the Obama family enjoying an annual Christmas getaway, it’s important to remember that the $4 million estimated cost of the Hawaiian adventure covers things besides souvenirs and grass skirts. Flying in Air Force One at $182,000 an hour for nine hours comes to $3.3 million in round-trip airfare alone. And, in all fairness, the President does pick up the tab for the sumptuous compound on Kailuana Place.

For the other expenses, the Hawaii Reporter estimated that the $4 million price tag covered by the American taxpayer only covers travel, staff housing and protection, and the aforementioned enormous cost to fly Air Force One. Oh, and don’t forget the supplementary cargo plane for various and sundry vacation-related accoutrements.

Moreover, the President, Michelle, Malia, Sasha, and Bo have already made voluntary sacrifices this past year. For instance, last August the first family willingly forfeited their usual multimillion-dollar Martha’s Vineyard summer vacation so the President could toil away on behalf of the middle class without interruption.

Now that the election is over and Obama has securely established the fact that successful, hardworking people are to blame for most of America’s problems, it’s time for him to claim the just reward of a long past-due respite chock full of entertainment and leisure.

During the planned 17-day breather the President will be doing the usual ”playing golf, eating at local restaurants with family members and escorting his daughters to island water parks and other activities.”

In other words, while America, on both a micro and macro level, anticipates a future of making do on a painful austerity budget, Barack Obama is resting up in preparation for his splashy, high-priced inauguration party and to resume the hard work he started of fundamentally trashing…sorry, “fundamentally transforming the United States of America.

As for the residents of Oahu or any poor schlub attempting to make his or her way around the island this Christmas, word to the wise: “You better leave early for any scheduled pig roasts, because for the next 2.5 weeks there are expected to be ‘unannounced delays as the presidential motorcade travels around the island.’”

Leis and luaus aside, there is a potential spoiler in the Obama vacation plans. The President may have to discontinue waxing his surfboard, leave the shaved ice behind, and head home before January 6th. The glitch is that a deal was not reached to avert that fiscal cliff the President and Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner – also known as the Washington version of the notorious cliff-diving duo Thelma and Louise - are about to purposely drive America over.

Therefore, despite Obama’s undying dedication to saving the middle class, as of January 2nd, “a mix of rising taxes and mandatory spending cuts are set to kick in” – thus making Barack ‘Louise’ Obama the proud owner of what John ‘Thelma’ Boehner has coined ”the largest tax increase in American history.”

Nonetheless, the President did not seem to be the least bit worried about how it might look luxuriating for two weeks while the nation teeters on the verge of a fiscal nightmare come January 2nd. Nor did he seem concerned one iota that those who bestowed upon him a second term might find it a tad insensitive to take a vacation with such an enormous price tag attached to it at this particular time.

And so, as he bid “aloha” before leaving for the island paradise of Hawaii, the President offered the following holiday advice to the uneasy lawmakers he left behind in Washington DC: “Enjoy some eggnog and Christmas cookies before getting back to business next week.”

A more symbolic gesture would be for Washington lawmakers, in honor of the mess they’ve helped to make, after banging back a couple of shots of cheap whiskey to choke on some stale fruit cake.

Either way, for the rest of America struggling desperately to make ends meet this Christmas, gratefulness should still abound. Where else but in America could a nation on the brink of economic ruin have the pleasure of living vicariously through the life of the middle class’s biggest champion as he and his family enjoy a $4 million vacation getaway in Hawaii?

Michelle's Last Four Years - Lest We Forget

Having financial problems?

At least Michelle Obama was able to spend between $10 and $12 million dollars of YOUR money on vacations, so everyone hasn't had a hard time.

"Everybody's going to have to give a little bit. ... If you're a family trying to cut back, you might skip going out to dinner, you might put off a vacation."

Jeannie DeAngelis - The Earth Quakes on Spring Break

Originally posted at American Thinker
In some circles, supporters who stop just short of worshiping the man have assigned Barack Obama God-like qualities. Lest we forget, this is a guy who people believed would provide America a nonstop Biblical-style Day of Jubilee. The belief was, Obama would forgive mortgages and, like multiplying the loaves and fishes, fill gas tanks with free $5-a-gallon gasoline.

Just prior to the election in 2008, candidate Obama had the audacity to declare that if he was elected, in that historic moment, "the rise of the oceans [would begin] to slow and our planet begin to heal." Yet, since that day there have been cataclysmic global events, including eight major rising-sea tsunamis that have claimed hundreds of thousands of lives.

It seems like every time the President makes a Messiah-like proclamation, whether large or small, God drops in unannounced to remind the world who's really in charge. And judging by the way things have been going for the last three years or so, the good old days of pestilence and plagues would be a welcome reprieve.

Still, one has to admit that it takes an extraordinary person with quite an inflated ego to claim the power to affect planetary well-being, as well as an ample dose of chutzpah to advertise oneself as having the ability to command rising oceans to slow.

Meanwhile, the most recent divine rebuke to correct Barack Obama's omnipotent self-perception occurred when the White House wielded its power to strong-arm the media into scrubbing stories about daughter Malia's second vacation since January, a parent-free spring break in Oaxaca, Mexico.

It started when the White House, supposedly concerned for Malia's security, asked the press to back off the story. In response, the AFP, Yahoo News, the Huffington Post, various Australian news organizations, the Daily Mail, and the Telegraph all agreed to push the delete button on the 'Malia Goes to Mexico' story -- which they had already published -- with an agreeability that should be newsworthy in itself.

The media must have been so intimidated that no one thought to ask how this president, who allows his 13-year-old child to go on a school trip to a country that's racking up headless corpses faster than he's racking up debt, can get away with chastising the press for compromising his daughter's security.

Nevertheless, judging by the long list of headlines that linked to "404 error" pages, it appeared that once again Pharaoh Obama's magicians had thrown their staffs to the ground to exhibit their power to turn rods into snakes and everyone jumped back. But the exhibition was short lived because, in one fell swoop, a bigger, badder serpent swallowed the President's power over the press.

After the diktat came down from on high to replace the Malia-in-Mexico stories with "Senegal music star Youssou Ndour hits campaign trail," a 7.6 magnitude earthquake hit in close proximity to where the President's daughter was vacationing.

Thankfully the girl was unharmed, but the White House had to acquiesce and come out with a story assuring the world that Malia Obama, while spring-breaking in gunrunning, drug cartel-laden, beheading-for-sport Mexico, had survived the earthquake.

Proving yet again that just like the Pharaoh of old, another message needed to be sent to a man deluded into believing he's the one in charge. And the message was this: 'You may be able to push around a pusillanimous press, but you have zero power to heal a trembling earth, or calm the rising sea.'

Lurita Doan - Barack Obama-the Traveling Salesman

During the past year, Barack Obama has attended over 100 fundraisers. Even in a cynical, political town, such as Washington, DC Obama is racking up some staggering numbers, with time spent out of the office leading the list.

We are a generation that is used to executives who work outside of the office using air travel, telework, video conferencing, off-site, motivational conferences, international, simulcast product launches and a host of other 21st century management techniques to enhance a worker’s performance. But in this age of out of the office “productivity” activities, the average American is a mere piker compared to Barack Obama.

Peter Drucker, the management guru, once said that an effective CEO spends his time on an organization’s priorities because “time is the scarcest resource of the manager. If it is not managed, nothing else can be managed.“

Few executives seem to spend as much time out of office as of Barack Obama, but with the recent Chapter 11 filing for bankruptcy by Fuller Brush, thoughts about door-to-door traveling salesman immediately brought Barack Obama to mind.

Consider: Barack Obama has played over 90 rounds of golf in the past 36 months, attended over 250 fundraisers (100 of them in the past 12 months),and taken 78 days of vacation.

The Presidency of the United States is, arguably, the most difficult job on the planet. Certainly, Americans want a president that is refreshed, rested and capable of making sound judgment calls on the complex issues of the day, but Barack Obama has taken more than just a few days off; he’s taken them at great cost (literally) to the America people.

In the past year, Obama has done 20 fundraisers in California alone, traveling via Air Force One at a cost of approximately $180,000 per hour flying time. While several of the fundraisers occurred on the same trip, even the President of the United States can’t change the basic rules of physics, so, Obama, on Air Force One, will still require approximately 5 hours to fly to California and 5 hours to return from California.

A modest cost estimate might show that the10 hours of air time costs, alone, for a round-trip fundraiser in California is upward of $1.8 million. Then, consider the sheer number of trips made by Barack Obama, and Americans can see that Obama’s fundraisers in California cost the American taxpayer anywhere from $7 million dollars to $30million dollars –and that’s just the travel costs to California fundraising events. Imagine then, the cost of traveling to the other 80 fundraisers this past year.

If Americans consider the President’s time spent playing golf, those numbers are also startling. A round of golf, where the course has been cleared (because he’s the President and because of security) might be able to finish in about 3 hours. Of course, usually Obama golfs in the presence of hundreds of spectators such as occurred in Nantucket this past summer or in Hawaii over Christmas—so assume in those cases that the play is a bit slower. In general, though, the average time to play a round of golf is approximately 4.5 hours. If Americans do the math, then 90 rounds of golf, averaging 4.5 hours equals about 405 hours spent golfing and several dozens more hours traveling to golf courses to play..

Then there are Obama’s vacation days. (Now, hopefully some of the golfing occurred during Obama’s vacation days—though Obama often counts golf as a work day since he golfs with other politicos.) During the past three years, Obama has taken about 78 days of vacation. Most American workers work, on average, about 2000 hours annually. Obama’s 78 days of vacation equal approx. 1872 hours, so Obama has spent almost one year of his three years in office on vacation.

And, as always, there is the travel to get to the fundraising, golfing and vacationing.

What becomes clear is that Barack Obama is traveling around—a lot—selling himself, and trying to garner perks, privileges and a second term in office, but very little work that benefits the average American taxpayer seems to be getting done with our taxpayer dollars.

It’s no surprise that President Obama rarely meets with his Cabinet—he doesn’t have time—he’s traveling. It’s no surprise that Obama has little understanding of the complexity of current, American political issues since Obama rarely meets with the opposition. Obama doesn’t have time, he’s traveling.

Consider: three years is 1096 days. Even by the most modest of estimates, with over 250 fundraiser, 90 rounds of golf and 78 vacation days, Obama has spent 40% of that time pleasure-seeking and fundraising.

Is it any wonder that Obama has no understanding of the struggles of the small business owner who spends 14-hour days, six or seven days a week trying to grow a business? The struggles of the small business owner who is being crushed under the Obama Administration’s excessive regulatory stranglehold and who has to use his personal savings to finance business growth, who has to use his home as collateral to gain access to capital and who hasn’t had a vacation in five years has more in common with aliens from outer space than with Barack Obama.

Our nation is facing big problems, and we need folks willing to work now to solve these problems now. Delaying hard decisions is a sign of weakness and will surely lead to failure. So, it’s a bit scary when Drucker warns managers against ignoring fiscal priorities in favor of “a grandiose future”, as Obama seems to have done.

Golfing. Traveling. Fundraising. Vacation. Golfing, and then more fundraising. And, oh yes, vacation. Obama has made his priorities clear to Americans. Obama is all about re-election, pleasure and re-election—as long as it can continue to be done at the expense of the American taxpayer.

Jeannie DeAngelis - Michelle Obama, Job Creator

Originally posted at American Thinker

Michelle Obama has a vacation gig that's hard to beat. There's the February 'spend time with the daughters' vacation, which usually entails skiing and snowboarding in Vail, Beaver Creek, or Aspen. There's 'tag along with Barry' excursions, which turn into holiday adventures like last years' post- Vail trip to Rio. Following closely behind are the April trips like last year's slogging stout in Ireland and an outing to rub elbows with royals Kate and Will.

Then there's the pre-vacation vacation in June, which usually precedes the Martha's Vineyard official vacation in August. This year it was a 'fried fat cake' safari to Africa.

In the fall, prior to Christmas vacation in Hawaii, there's usually some event Michelle manages to turns into a fun jaunt. Last year it was the Asian Pacific Conference conveniently located in Hawaii, where the First Lady got to squeeze in some R & R and local dining before returning early for a $4 million, 17-day Hawaiian Christmas respite.

Now here's the thing: This woman wouldn't know work if she tripped over it. She's either dancing with platypuses, making cameo appearances on children's shows, dining in tony bistros, hosting glitzy star-studded parties, or circumnavigating the globe following a strict vacation schedule she hasn't deviated from since she first set her dainty size-11 foot in the White House.

And she does all this while her husband, who has put America's workforce on a permanent vacation, talks about creating jobs.

These two should pick another pet project, because working and job creation just doesn't suit either of them. How can this couple, one of whom is rumored to have spent nearly $10 million on vacations in three years, even dare to mention the word 'job?' Especially since a large portion of Michelle's travel, security, and entourage expenses come compliments of those American taxpayers who, despite Barack Obama's efforts, still manage to have a job?

But then again, all things in perspective, kudos to Barack's better half, for at least breathing life into the job market by keeping hotel housekeeping, restaurant staff, security details, social directors, masseuses, baggage porters, desk clerks and pool and bellboys gainfully employed.

Which is exactly what Michelle is doing for President's Day? Instead of spending it with the President, the First Lady, eager to keep legions of resort service workers employed, packed up the girls and headed out to Colorado for a ski vacation. According the Pitkin County Sheriff Joe DiSalvo, seven deputies will be employed, at least until the Obama girls leave, because after meeting with the Secret Service, DiSalvo loaned his personnel to help "protect the first lady and her family" on what is being touted as a "low-key" vacation.

How did the first lady make her way to Aspen? She spoke at a fundraiser at James Crown (family worth 3.1 billion) of Chicago's Tiehack side estate last July where 'low-key' supporters paid between $1,000 and $10,000 to attend.

James Schine Crown, son of billionaire Lester Crown, is, among other things, the owner of the Aspen Skiing Company. He must have quite a hot tub, because Michelle decided to bunk with Jim and Paula Ann for a couple of days, ski Buttermilk, and "relax and enjoy what the resort has to offer," because God knows no one deserves a vacation more than job-creating resort dweller Michelle Obama.

Besides being the President of Henry Crown and Company private investments, James Crown is also Chairman of the Board of Trustees for the University of Chicago, as well as a director of JPMorgan Chase and General Dynamics.

In the end, it may work out because ironically, Mr. Crown also sits on the board at dessert giant Sara Lee. Maybe that's why Michelle is there, because as Barack Obama says "In Americas there is always something we can do to create jobs."

So, on a personal quest to help her husband keep America employed, Michelle could actually be on a so-called 'working vacation' in Aspen. Mrs. Obama could be laying the groundwork with her billionaire pal Jimmy Crown for Sara Lee to assist her in a 'Let Them Eat Cake' project, wherein the dedicated first lady and the billionaire mogul provide cake for the masses and create jobs at the same time.

Michelle Obama Vacations - While America Suffers Economically

"Everybody's going to have to give a little bit. ... If you're a family trying to cut back, you might skip going out to dinner, you might put off a vacation."
President Barack Obama

Barack Obama has been President over two ½ Years and has ALREADY spent more on personal vacations than any President in History. Unemployment is 9.0% in November 2011.

In the past year alone, First Lady Michelle Obama has spent 42 days on vacation, costing taxpayers upwards of $10 million.

Michelle Obama Takes her Depressed Gynecologist on a Trip with 40 Friends to Spain.

Michelle Obama has chosen the gorgeous resort town of Marbella, Spain, for the four-night getaway, for a mother-daughter retreat along with several of her closest friends.

Marbella is an elite beach resort filled with yachts and Ferraris - but also grounded in its history, a traditional Spanish pueblo known for its bullfights and flamenco dancing.

The Obamas have reportedly booked a block of rooms for Wednesday through Sunday in the five-star Hotel Villa Padierna, a golf and spa resort known as the best hotel in Spain.

After the ladies get their fill of the villa's private beach and beauty treatments, the village promises adventures like horseback riding, Arabian-style markets and tapas restaurants serving seafood plucked from the Mediterranean.

President Obama is missing the trip, as is 12-year-old Malia.

Michelle is sparing no expense-In a resort where suites run up to 6,500 dollars a night, she's reportedly reserved 30 rooms for the group, their friends and security detail.

But before they visit the king and queen of Spain, Michelle and Sasha will taste the royal treatment.

Jeannie DeAngelis - Michelle Blames it on the Kids

Originally posted at American Thinker
Michelle Obama must think most people are easily duped. To quell the disapproval of Americans who struggle to come up with the extra money to fill their gas tanks, Michelle has to spend lots of time -- between booking vacations and deciding how big a wardrobe chest to load into the cargo plane -- coming up with justifications to subdue the public's disapproval of her obvious addiction to pricey vacations.

Last year, prior to heading off to Martha's Vineyard, Michelle took Sasha on an exotic summer visit to Spain. The I-dare-you-to-say-something excuse for that excursion was that it was a "private mother-daughter trip with longtime family friends," which in itself is a contradiction in terms.

A "private mother-daughter" trip with 40 "close" friends and a taxpayer-funded security detail of 68 is hardly an intimate family outing. The entourage was so large that the group required 30 rooms in "Spain's most exclusive hotel the Villa Padierna, a golf and spa resort located along the coast from Marbella."

Sorry, but throwing around mother-daughter language, as if Sasha and Shelley were going to Spain to spend one-on-one "Mommy and Me" time, was nothing more than a manipulative shield used to suppress well-deserved criticism for a four-day trip rumored to cost $375,000.

Every Christmas the Obamas kick back for a low-key holiday in Hawaii on a "family" break that runs about $1.5 million for transport planes; exorbitant rent on a mansion called the "Winter White House"; and lodging for security, staff, and medical backup. Before anyone dares criticize, it's important to remember that the break is a longtime family tradition where two darling little girls get to make an annual visit to walk the hallowed ground that is their father's putative birthplace.

Every couple of months Michelle has to pray that America is either consumed by the economic pain inflicted by her husband or afflicted with short-term memory loss, because between tagalong official trips barely a couple of months pass before the first lady partakes of on-site international cuisine and global sightseeing, compliments of the nation's taxpayers.

If White House sources are correct, Michelle is doing one of the following: either floating another lame excuse to bunk in some exclusive $2,500-a-night hotel somewhere, exploiting lunch with her daughters as an excuse to shop in Paris, or treating her liberal body to an expensive massage accompanied by a martini made with "top-shelf vodka."

Take for instance how, after Obama encouraged America to save money by skipping vacation, less than 50 days after returning home from Oahu Michelle commissioned AF1 to ferry her as chaperone to a 2010 giggling-girls ski trip in Vail, Colorado. Besides not heeding her husband's austerity advice, the first lady of healthy eating dined on ancho-chili short ribs at "141 grams of fat per serving." Then, after dessert, she chose to camp out like a girl scout in the "upscale Sebastian Hotel on Vail Mountain, where rooms start at $650 a night and range up to more than $2,400 for multi-bedroom suites."

Lest we forget, Michelle and her daughters spent time tasting and touring their way through New York City, sightseeing in Los Angeles, barbequing and memorializing on Memorial Day in Chicago, hiking in Maine, bobbing for tar balls on the Florida Gulf Coast, and recovering from a whirlwind of activity on an annual vacation in Chilmark.

Ever family-minded, Michelle also accompanied her husband to Indonesia, South America, Ireland, the UK, and Paris, trips that incorporated retail therapy, seeing the sights, fine dining, and recreating in between official duties that included breaking English protocol and forcing conservative Muslim men to shake her hand.

This year, just prior to heading to Martha's Vineyard, Mrs. Obama managed to squeeze in a pre-vacation/official business/vacation to South Africa, accompanied as usual by an entourage of tagalong family and friends. If cost estimates for travel and security are correct, the jaunt cost American taxpayers anywhere from $500,000 to a reported $800,000.

Before Americans jump to conclusions and protest unfairly, "U.S. Embassy Spokeswoman Elizabeth Trudeau made clear that the trip was partially a personal pilgrimage for the first lady" -- another sentimental crusade with a huge price tag partially financed with tax dollars deducted from the unemployment checks of 3.5 million people, a fraction of the 13.9 million unemployed individuals presently collecting benefits.

Thus, justification for spending a half a million dollars obviously demanded playing the trusty old "family card," which may be why Mrs. Obama brought along Sasha and Malia, Grandma Robinson, and her brother's two kids. Prior to the trip, and in hopes of evoking the "awww" factor, a spokeswoman for the U.S. embassy in South Africa said, "A visit to South Africa is important for them as a family."

The African "excursion included tourist stops to historical landmarks and museums" and a "chance for Mrs. Obama to meet privately with Nelson Mandela -- an experience she described as 'surreal'" -- an opinion one can only hope had nothing to do with Mr. Mandela's shirt.

Nevertheless, the rationalization for spending an exorbitant amount of money on a private family safari included the standard Obama-family-Hallmark-moment excuse, as well as Michelle addressing "youth leadership" and "education," and sharing with Africa her views on "health and wellness" between scarfing down French fries, huge sausages, and fried fat cakes in Muchudu village in Botswana.

So, after three years and the reported millions in taxpayer dollars spent this year alone on Michelle Obama's vacation expenses, family time, "private" family vacations, and the "long-planned family trip" excuses are starting to get old.

Especially for Americans whose chances of ever taking a family vacation again are almost as likely as Mrs. Obama wearing a designer outfit twice, staying at a Motel 6TM, or going 60 days without taking off on a costly excursion financed with other people's money, justified with the excuse that visiting Costa del Sol is "quality time" with the kids.

Jeannie DeAngelis - A ‘Windshield Rancher’ and the Nouveau Riche

In reaction to the criticism over the Obama family heading to Martha’s Vineyard amidst gargantuan economic woes and unemployment rates so high even the dead are disturbed, liberals have taken to defending Obama’s vacation time (transportation compliments of two tax-payer funded jets) by portraying George W. Bush as a man who never worked.

According to Obama’s defenders, Bush vacation days were disproportionately greater when compared to Barack “nose-to-the-grindstone” Obama’s. The left argues that Obama has earned 10 days in a haven for multimillionaires because Bush spent eight years in perpetual party mode.

Mr. Bush did spend time on “vacation.” But Obama and Michelle closing down Bar Harbor, Maine to dine in upscale restaurants with a “Latin flair” is quite different from G.W. fishing on his family’s estate in Kennebunkport prior to hosting a “Lobster Summit” for Vladimir Putin.

According to CBS reporter Mark Knoller, a vacationing President Bush would go into town for an annual cheeseburger. On the other hand, every chance he gets, Barack relaxes seaside, sipping sunset cocktails and eating lobster while the Secret Service keep peons at bay.

Maybe scorekeepers could refresh America’s memory and cite the instance when Mr. and Mrs. Bush nearly brought the Big Apple to a halt while they leisurely took in dinner and a show.

Intermittently, George W. did head home to conduct business from the “Western White House” in Crawford, Texas. For fun, Mr. Bush would be seen with a “power saw in his hand going after brush and dead trees.” President Obama has got to know that no one would condemn a decision to head home to his Tony Rezko-acquired property on South Greenwood Avenue in Chicago, instead of his $4,000 a night “Winter White House” in Hawaii.

Moreover, is there a liberal apologist honest enough to calculate the difference between Bush floating around in his father’s row boat in Maine and the untold millions Obama spent, mixing business with pleasure, on a 250-person, GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt-enhanced traveling entourage that reserved 500 rooms in the Taj Mahal hotel in Mumbai?

During his tenure, Bush was regularly criticized for making 77 visits to Prairie Chapel Ranch. What detractors rarely mention is the former president voluntarily doing double-duty by entertaining 19 world leaders in his home. For those keeping track, that averages to be 2.375 working vacations a year.

When not gathering cedar wood, Bush spent many a vacation day serving “Southern-inspired” meals to dignitaries like China’s former leader Jiāng Zémín.

Some other notables feted at Mr. Bush’s heartland ranch were: Tony Blair; Putin and his pectorals; King Abdullah; Australian and Italian Prime Ministers John Howard and Silvio “Bunga Bunga” Berlusconi; Vicente Fox; Hosni Mubarak; Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía of Spain; German Chancellor Andrea Merkel; and Israel’s Ariel Sharon.

On the other hand, Barack prefers to reserve fine dining for family getaways. Unlike his predecessor, Obama’s unique down-home style includes treating Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to greasy spoon at Ray’s Hell Burger, a hamburger joint in downtown DC that Obama frequents with trusty sidekick Joe Biden.

Listening to liberals justify the President spending more time in a golf cart than with his feet up on the Resolute Desk, one would think Barry needs to be pried from the Oval Office and convinced to take a few days off against his will.

What is never mentioned is that the Obamas get a reprieve every time they’re visited at the White House by Motown stars, ex-Beatles, “Desperate Housewives”/Border security advisors, and Super Bowl party guests like the ex-Mrs. Marc Anthony, JLo. Moreover, the Obamas regularly blow off steam with at-home Latina cultural events and on Wagyu beef, cocktail parties, and Conga lines.

Mr. and Mrs. Obama also shuffle together official business with throwing back pints of Guinness and Diwali dancing. Makes one wonder how liberals, who define Bush entertaining world leaders in Crawford as a vacation, can consider Obama touring Rio with Michelle, Sasha and Malia official business.

However, had George W. Bush not boycotted the Earth Summit in 2002, there’s a good chance he too could have delighted poor Brazilian kids with his adroit soccer ball dexterity.

Bush aside, the Queen of R and R is Michelle. In between vacations, Mrs. Obama manages to sandwich in NYC tasting tours, BBQ eating romance, jaunts to Oregon, “whirlwind” shopping in Paris, ancho-chile short ribs and skiing in Vail, and miniature golf sessions in Panama City Beach. After tuckering herself out on a $375,000 Spanish pre-vacation/vacation and a fried fat-cake-eating African safari, the woman deserves two-weeks off in August.

Nevertheless, the debate isn’t about Michelle; it’s about Barry and George. The question is how Barack Obama body surfing in the cool waves of the Atlantic while the economy tanks and desperate Americans stand in line at job fairs baking in the hot summer sun compares with Bush holding official meetings at Camp David and choosing to spend time in Crawford brandishing a chain saw and a cheeseburger in a strong economy.

The truth is, despite 9-11, while Bush was president and until the Pelosi Democrats took over Congress, both the stock market, and nation’s employment rate remained relatively healthy. Yet Bush, who quit playing golf during the Iraqi war because he felt it sent the “wrong signal,” still maintained a low vacation profile.

For Barack Obama, whose horrendous fiscal policies are responsible for much of America’s misery, to take a highbrow vacation during a double-dip recession reveals a lot about his character. Although George W. defines himself as a “windshield rancher,” it’s Obama who clearly lacks class, because his habitual insensitivity and self-indulgence proves he cares for no one but himself.

The President’s defenders should quit comparing the arriviste-nouveau riche-Obama side show with the restraint and discretion Bush exhibited throughout his presidency. George W’s vacation days were just another excuse for him to extend a unique brand of “ranch diplomacy,” as opposed to the frivolous opulence that, despite America’s ongoing economic despair, a shameless Barack Obama continues to enjoy.
