Doug Giles - Lessons from an Anthony Weiner Roast

Sin is a part of the human condition. If you don’t believe me, ride shotgun with me down I-95 during rush hour in Miami, and you’ll see me manifest more demons than Emily Rose would after 3 a.m.

Y’know, we’d all love to think that we are angels, but if the truth be told, more than likely we wouldn’t want our lives or thoughts shown on YouTube for our grandmothers to see—unless, of course, you’re Snooki and don’t give a shizzle that everyone and their dog knows that you’re a pirate hooker. Make that money, girl. Hey, if you’re going to die of alcohol poisoning and host several STDs then you might as well make some flow, eh Snook? But I digress.

I think most people get that our fleshly bents run toward the weird and that without strict discipline and divine help a lot of people would be taking pictures of their chimichanga and tweeting them over to chunky Facebookers in Seattle. Okay, maybe not.

One thing for certain, however, is that ever since idiot Eve started yapping with a flippin’ serpent while her dilatory husband stood by and picked lint from his navel, the entire human collective has fallen from a felicitous state of innocence into one whopping Jerry Springer mob. We are truly goofy and egregious goobers. As Calvin would say, we are totally depraved.

So … did it surprise me that a greasy, soulless New York congressman named Anthony Weiner would take snapshots of his junk and tweet ‘em over to some stupid dame dialoging with an obvious married freak? That answer would be H to the NO it didn’t surprise me. Any time one mixes fallen humanity and uncut narcissism with a smidge of power, a digital camera and a social network filled with unsupervised tweenage girls, you can be certain that some guy is going to post a photo of his one-eyed monster and make it his profile pic. This is the world in which we live.

Now, even though sin is to be expected, it should not be accepted unless one wants to be humiliated on TV, get one’s butt kicked by one’s pregnant Muslim wife and then, upon expiration, rot in hell for all eternity. Yes, brethren, we should crucify the flesh.

That said, aside from using certain camera angles to make things seem larger than they actually are, what can we base critters learn from Weiner’s roast? Check this out …

1. Control your sins, or they’ll control you: I guarantee that autoerotic Anthony never imagined his penchants would take him to Stupidtown. Therefore, to avoid being A. Weiner we should all bridle our carnal appetites.

2. Realize your sin will find you out: Everyone who sins in an egregious way and doesn’t die on the spot after the first fifty transgressions eventually begins to get cocky and assume that they’re going to get away with whatever they’re hiding. Ahahahaha! That’s funny.

3. When busted, own it: One thing of the many things that makes me loathe Anthony or cats like Ted Haggard is that when they get exposed for doing some stupid crap they lie, deny or blame others. I’ve found folks are generally forgiving if one falls. However, once the guilty party starts going Casey Anthony with lies and obfuscations, that’s when the collective mercy ends.

4. Know that rehab is PR and thus BS: Rehab? Puh-lease. Does anyone out there really believe that Weiner won’t be back to juggling his balls after six weeks of ink blot tests? “Daddy didn’t love me! Now where’s my camera …” And finally …

5. Understand that truly broken people aren’t camera whores.

The Anthony Weiner scandal has many lessons, ranging from not naming one’s kid Anthony Weiner to the five bullet points mentioned above. The final point that I’d like to volley into your court is this one: Experience is the best teacher—especially someone else’s experiences. So, forget that crap about learning from your mistakes, children; it is safer and more entertaining to learn from Anthony Weiner’s mistakes. Amen.

Kevin McCullough - Why Bill O'Reilly & Rachel Maddow Are Both Wrong!

Playing the blame game with Anthony Weiner this week became wildly popular.

Once the Congressman refused to stick it out any longer, punditry tried to erect a whole series of straw man reasons, both for blame or justification, arguing that Weiner was treated with a double standard. Viewing Weiner's resignation as either unnecessary or unjust, the opinion class claimed that he either wasn't as bad as other examples, or that he had done nothing illegal--therefore his punishment was far more exacting than his crime.

While some of this is true, it still matters not. Anthony Weiner made his own decision to resign, it was an appropriate decision and the likes of Bill O'Reilly and Rachel Maddow both need to think through their positions on this a bit better.

For the seemingly 5017th & 5018th times, since the climax of this scandal both hosts felt the need to invoke, once again, the name of David Vitter. Claiming Vitter's sexual scandal a double standard to Weiner's. O'Reilly went as far as to label it, "much worse" than the transgressions of Weiner. Maddow implied double standards as some sort of castigation against the GOP.

But the long story short, David Vitter and Anthony Weiner, are two very different men--with wildly different scandals.

The only reason the public ever knew about Vitter's scandal was due to the fact that Hustler magazine had Vitter's name on a hit list of sorts and his number turned up in a DC Madame's black book. Hustler's intention was to mar the public name of the Senator that had dealt extensively with family values issues, and had run at the endorsement of family value's organization on the federal and state levels.

The reason the public knew about Weiner, was because he took pictures of his sexual organs and transmitted them to the public, and in a yet-to-be-legally-determined manner of possible sexual harassment to women he cruised his twitter feed for. He then lied wildly about it. He also wasted broadcaster's and journalist's efforts in granting interviews in which hid the growing truth.

When contrition came for both men the circumstances were wildly different as well. Vitter had confessed to his wife, members of his church, and others of his behavior years previous to the revelation. At the time his wife made a specific decision to approach her relationship with her husband as "not holding natural consequences against him as the offender." In modern terms this is called forgiveness. But the point is that the issue was resolved long before it became known.

When contrition came for Weiner, he telephoned his wife moments before to let her know that he had lied and that he was going to tell the world. She has been largely on the road of international travel with her boss Hillary Clinton and the two have barely had time to discuss the matter.

Both did decide to stay in their jobs initially, but no doubt one of the biggest reasons was the fact that the American people felt they got a straight story from Vitter, and everyone felt there was much Weiner had not 'fessed up to.

Maddow attempted to blame Weiner's series of horrifically bad decisions on the media. An institution she proudly participates in, in a strongly partisan fashion, every week night. But asserting this is utterly contemptible on its merits.

I'm no fan of the media, but working in it, I understand the concerns and worries. Ten days of lies, on top of an arrogant presumption that his job was still in tact - showed not just poor taste, but unacceptable judgement.

O'Reilly attempted to argue that Clinton and Vitter both did far worse in office. And from a legal standpoint he's right about Clinton. Vitter's crimes were outside the window of prosecution.

But O'Reilly and Maddow are both severely misguided, because Weiner's offense wasn't that he didn't do anything "illegal." Instead his crime was the belief that he could show such disrespect to the office.

Men who have private affairs do far less damage to the House of Representatives than those who shoot pictures of themselves holding their "handlebar" in shots of the "members only" locker-room.

Dignity would not allow a House member to parade through Congress in his Calvin Kleins. Weiner didn't come to the chamber in his skivvies, but every lap-top, every House office, every House intern and page saw the pictures that the Congressman purposefully posed, shot, tweeted, facebooked, and emailed.

That is unstable behavior, but it is disrespectful behavior to the office, and thus his constituents.

And though O'Reilly and Maddow may wish to draw comparisons, neither Vitter nor Clinton's sins came close.

Which is highly ironic considering the observations of Ellis Henican on the left, and Jonah Goldberg on the right--he didn't even "get any."

Weiner's disgrace, Weiner's decision. And he got it right when O'Reilly and Maddow did not.

Finally, Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-NY) did the honorable thing: he folded up his towel and handed in his pass to the House Members Gym in the basement of the Rayburn House Office Building.

Weiner must have “heed[ed] calls from President Barack Obama,” who said that if he found himself in a similar position, “he’d resign.”

Besides the president, calls for Weiner to capitulate came from both sides of the aisle: House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) as well as a woman who, under different circumstances, would normally celebrate such a colorful display of sexual expression, San Francisco liberal House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA). This time, however, both John and Nancy agreed it would be in the country’s best interest if Weiner headed back to Queens and remained there permanently.

Anthony Weiner’s long overdue submission to pressure ended nearly “three weeks of tumultuous political controversy,” which included “sexting,” lying, and lewd pictures. Besides “a photo of a man’s crotch posted publicly on his Twitter account…and a tear-filled press conference,” also trickling out into the public were racy photos “including one of his naked genitals and others of him posing in the House gym.”

In addition, the nation was also subjected to an ongoing parade of women stepping forward and accusing Weiner of inappropriately communicating with them via the Internet. Thus far the bevy of beauties included a black jack dealer, an aspiring nurse, a 21-year-old student, and a cheerleading coach, as well as a Pink Pony pole dancer/porn actress named Ginger Lee, who just so happens to be the very truthful client of feminist lawyer/opportunist Gloria Allred.

Before making any final decisions about leaving Congress, “Weiner had said he would wait until his wife Huma Abedin returned” from navigating the African continent for a week with boss and graduate of the School for Political Wives of Philandering Husbands, Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Seems after his wife’s return the congressman made up his mind to resign pretty quickly, which means Obama, Boehner, and Pelosi had nothing to do with the decision and Weiner throwing in the gym towel had everything to do with his bride of one year, Huma, who was nowhere to be found during the congressman’s circus-like resignation press conference.

In spite of his belief that his New York constituents would forgive salacious indiscretions in return for a representative with a 100% NARAL rating, it appears that the mother of Weiner’s unborn child did not agree with cocky Anthony stubbornly subjecting her, Weiner Jr., or the Democrat party to additional humiliation.

Either way, it didn’t matter because supposedly even before Weiner’s decision to step down was made official, House Democrats were “set to strip [no pun intended] Weiner of his committee assignments.” Before publicly thanking his lawyer father and New York City public school teacher mother (which explains a lot) for having “instilled in [him] the values that have carried [him] this far,” Weiner called and informed Democratic Congressional Committee chairperson Steve Israel, “who had also called for his resignation,” to inform him he planned to cede his congressional seat.

Ironically, when Israel got the call from Weiner both he and Pelosi were enjoying ‘corn dogs’ and ‘chicken in a basket’ at the annual White House South Lawn picnic.

Prior to Weiner’s resignation, Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) told reporters he was unaware of the congressman’s plans to quit, which was hard to believe because apparently John threw caution to the wind and in between handfuls of kettle corn actually smoked what could be viewed as a celebratory cigarette in plain sight of revelers at the White House annual picnic.

Verbose chair of the Democratic National Committee, Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), who also encouraged Weiner’s departure, had no further comment about Weiner’s extracurricular antics and claimed she got all her updates directly from a Blackberry similar to the one used by Weiner to snap pictures of his naked manhood.

It’s hard to fathom, but Missouri Representative Lacy Clay (D-MO), after hearing about Weiner’s decision to resign, lauded the NY congressman as a “die-hard member of our caucus,” but apparently, that’s exactly what he said. Clay also said he hoped Weiner gets “needed help” and referred to the entire situation as “sad.”

Nevertheless, all is not lost! If Weiner’s post-sex-therapy political rehabilitation/national book tour doesn’t work out, the legislator can always go back to pursuing his lifelong dream of becoming a weatherman.

And so another Democrat “weapon of war…perishes,” turns in his government-issued perks and the keys to his Congressional office. As a shamed Weiner heads back to Forest Hills in Queens to try to repair what little is left of his marriage, reputation and life, a poignant line of Scripture comes to mind from the Old Testament book of 2nd Samuel, Chapter 1 verse 27: “Oh how the mighty have fallen!”

Did Rep. Weiner Break the Law?

Despite Rep. Weiner's claim that nothing he did violated House rules or any law, questions have arisen about the use of his congressional office for interviews perpetrating the lie that his Twitter was hacked. House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi has asked that a House Ethics Committee investigation be conducted to determine if any official resources were used.
