Recently, President Obama, with Valerie Jarrett in tow, graced the podium at Morehouse College to deliver the keynote speech at the historically all-male black liberal arts institution's commencement ceremonies. Morehouse's alumni include notables such as actors/Obama bootlickers Spike Lee and Samuel L. Jackson, as well as non-bootlicker Herman Cain.

Without the assistance of a Marine to shield him from the rain, Obama put on his best "in the house" accent and greeted distinguished guests and 2013 graduates. Then, after talking about hair and Michelle's feelings about rain, the president bestowed dispensational entitlement "Crown Forum credits" upon students who would otherwise be ineligible to graduate without them.

Barack "You can't tell me much" Obama, newly installed as an honorary member of the elite African-American Morehouse Men intellectuals, told the group, "You can always tell a Morehouse Man -- but you can't tell him much."

With that in mind, one can't help but wonder whether the scandal-ridden Obama heard his own words when he quoted late Morehouse president Benjamin Mays, who once said, "It will not be sufficient for ... any college, for that matter, to produce clever graduates ... but rather honest men, men who can be trusted in public and private lif[e]."

As he spoke of Martin Luther King, Jr., Barack Obama proved again that he harbors deep-seated bitterness by focusing on skin color instead of the content of character. Worse than that, the president had the audacity to tie Dr. King to community organizer/Rules for Radicals author Saul Alinsky when he talked about how at Morehouse MLK was introduced to "the writings of Gandhi and Thoreau, and the theory of civil disobedience."

Then, just as he did in Israel, and as both he and his wife Michelle do every chance they get, Obama paraphrased the following Alinsky quote: "It is necessary to begin where the world is if we are going to change it to what we think it should be." Regarding Martin Luther King, Jr., the president proclaimed, "It was here that professors encouraged him to look past the world as it was and fight for the world as it should be."

Moving right along, Obama chose to transport the graduates back to a time when "Jim Crow culture told [them] every day that somehow you were inferior," and that despite their ability to pay $40K a year in tuition, "the bitter legacy of slavery and segregation" has not "vanished entirely."

Barack Obama reminded the grads that, even though "someone who looks just like [him] can somehow come to serve as president of these United States of America," or become a zillionaire like Jay-Z, Tiger Woods, and Sean "Diddy" Combs, "racism and discrimination [still] exist."

According to the president, Morehouse Men "[w]ield something even more powerful than [a] diploma ... and that's the power of ... example." Wait! The president should probably disregard the four Morehouse Men arrested earlier this month for raping a Spelman student.

Broaching job creation and blacks having to "work twice as hard," hardly working Obama covered crime- and gun-violence reduction, the security of health care, and educating children. What he didn't mention was his need to console a public school-educated child who couldn't comprehend two minus one. With plans to grant amnesty to 30 million illegals, the president saying that "subtraction is tougher than addition" suddenly makes sense.

A financially fortunate Barack Obama certainly enjoys an extravagant lifestyle and thinks nothing of spending oodles of taxpayer money. Yet he still ridiculed "fancy jobs ... nice houses[,] and the nice cars."

Prefacing his traditional put-down of success, the president said, "[N]o one expects you to take a vow of poverty." Then, following that introduction, Obama clarified: "But I will say it betrays a poverty of ambition if all you think about is what goods you can buy instead of what good you can do."

The president went on to tell the Morehouse Men: "So, yes, go get that law degree. But if you do, ask yourself if the only option is to defend the rich and the powerful, or if you can also find some time to defend the powerless" -- the latter of which being exactly what Obama chose not to do with his law degree

No Obama speech would be complete without at least one disingenuously self-deprecating aside; on this occasion, he admitted that in the past he exploited his blackness as an excuse for failure, but then confessed, "Michelle will tell you I'm not perfect. She's got a long list of my imperfections[.]" The first lady corroborated that fact a few days later in Nashville, Tennessee.

Then, champion excuse-maker Barack Obama quoted the Morehouse fraternity creed -- a credo that sounds strangely like the condition of America for the last five years: "Excuses are tools of the incompetent used to build bridges to nowhere and monuments of nothingness."

The president also talked about his "heroic single mom," absentee father, and being a husband and dad, and shared foretelling thoughts of what he plans to reflect upon on his deathbed. Couched in his comments about family, Obama introduced identity politics by saying, "Be the best husband to your wife, or you're [sic] your boyfriend, or your partne[r]."

Then, in a shameless attempt to marginalize and discriminate against anyone who's not a minority, homosexual, or female, he linked blacks to illegals, LGBTs, Muslims, and underpaid women. Before dredging up what it feels like to be a "marginalized ... outsider" who suffers from the "sting of discrimination," the president should have scanned the list of groups the IRS targeted for the last four years.

Nevertheless, winding down with a "House"-ful of Is, the president explained that his success didn't result from "Ivy League degrees or SAT scores or GPAs," -- none of which anyone has ever gotten so much of a glimpse of. Instead, according to Obama, his achievements hinge on his "sense of connection[,] ... empathy," and the obligation he feels to the black community as a black man proud of his http://blogs.reuters.com/talesfromthetrail/2012/03/20/no-doubts-as-to-obamas-irish-ancestry-now/.

Ending his Morehouse comments, Obama said empathy made him successful because, like black men with less opportunity, without empathy, "I might have been in prison. I might have been unemployed."

Word to the wise, Mr. Obama: if the scandals continue to develop, those two "there but for the grace of God go I" scenarios you shared with the Morehouse Men may be more a prediction of what your future holds than a description of what your past might have been.

Crystal Wright - Obama Got Black at Morehouse But Didn’t Speak the Truth

Wow, after five years of his loyal constituents supporting him and receiving nothing in return, it was nice to see President Obama address this year’s all black male Morehouse College graduates. Obama even found his black vernacular as he always does before a black crowd, saying “I know some of you are just graduating, thank you Lordy.” As if all black people walk, talk, and think alike. Sickening and offensive.

Nevertheless, the last time Obama spoke to an historically black college or university was in 2007 at Howard University when he was trailing Hillary Clinton in the black vote for the Democrat presidential nomination. Can we say pandering?

Equally surprising during his Morehouse commencement address, Obama referred to himself “as a black man like you” something he rarely, if ever has done. Obama didn’t refer to himself as a black man during his re-election campaign either. In fact, quite the opposite, as America’s first black president he’s largely made it a point of distancing himself from black America but ironically need black Americans vote each time to win.

In his first term Obama had no appetite for the problems facing black Americans even though over 95% of blacks voted for him in 2008 and 93% in 2012. The Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), Obama’s black voter water carriers, barely got one meeting with the president during his first term. According to the editor of the blog Crew of 42 and managing editor of Politic365, Obama has met with the CBC only three times since 2009.

In 2012, CBC Chairman Emmanuel Cleaver told the media that if Hillary had been president or any white person with the black jobless rate at 14%, “we’d be marching around the White House.” Instead, the CBC gave Obama a break because he’s black. And with this lousy record, Cleaver and CBC members told blacks to vote for Obama a second time and they did.

Obama is “black” when convenient. The president throws blacks a few bones during elections to keep them in his pocket, ignoring them the rest of the time and delivering them nothing for their loyalty. His Morehouse speech was a nice diversion for the mainstream media from the growing scandals (IRS, AP and Benghazi) in his administration.

Austin Hill - Profits! Hating Them When They’re High And Panicking When They’re Low

Breaking news: some of America’s largest corporations have begun to report declining profits. For those that are offended by highly profitable corporations, this should be really great news.

But nobody is celebrating. In fact, the sagging profits reports are thought to be such a bad thing that some believe they sent the Dow sliding downward last week, for fear that a global recession has arrived.

If profits are such a terrible thing, why aren’t we relieved by their decline?

For the record, I have no idea whether or not a recession is eminent. And to the extent that economic activity is nearly impossible to predict with precision, nobody else knows either.

But regardless of whether the economy is moving up or down, Americans need to grapple with this “love-hate” attitude towards profitable enterprise. And let’s start with a couple of philosophical questions: Are profits always a good thing for a company to produce? And is it okay for one company to be really, really, profitable, even when other companies are not?

In some spheres of life – collegiate and professional athletic competitions, for example –Americans have no problem accepting the fact that with each match-up, some will succeed while others fail. Yet when it comes to business, success in producing profits is often seen as merely a necessary evil – and only acceptable if the profits aren’t “excessive.”

Part of the dilemma may well be that far too many Americans assume economics to be, as the term goes, a ‘zero-sum game.” Just as it is the case in many sporting events that one team wins and the other loses, so also it is assumed that if one individual or group is profitable, it necessarily causes somebody else’s unprofitability.

That, of course, is a false assumption. In our competitive free market economy, success with one enterprise often creates new markets in which other companies can succeed.

An easily understood example of this is the coffee house industry. In the 1980’s, Starbucks took the concept of the local coffee house where people meet and spend time together and drink beverages, and turned it in to a global business phenomena. And since the earliest beginnings of Starbucks, several other coffee house chains have been launched - Moxie Java, Tully’s Coffee, and Caribou Coffee to name a few - as an effort to capitalize on the burgeoning coffee house market. While today Starbucks remains the largest chain of its kind, these other newer and smaller companies have nonetheless benefited from Starbucks’ success, in as much as Starbucks essentially created the market for the modern-day coffee house in the first place.

But economic realities are one thing, and people’s perceptions are something different. And at present America is surrounded by an ever-present hostility towards profitable businesses – much of which emanates from the highest levels of our government.

Some of us saw this era of hostility coming. Back in 2008 while he was campaigning for the presidency, Then-Senator Obama made it a point to chastise American businesses nearly every time a robust earnings report was published. In the summer of that year, as an example, speaking to a stadium full of adoring followers, the President-to-be made it clear his disdain for the petroleum industry:

“First of all,” candidate Obama stated, “you’ve got oil companies making record profits…no… no companies in history have made the kind of profits the oil companies are makin’ right now…They..they…….one company, Exxon Mobil, made eleven billion dollars…billion, with a “b” ….last quarter….they made eleven billion dollars the quarter before that…makin’ money hand-over-fist…makin’ out like bandits…”

Imagine that! “Makin’ out like bandits” – that’s an amazing assessment of a successful business enterprise, suggesting that posting profits is tantamount to thievery. Of course at that moment in time, the early signs of a recession were appearing, and it was politically viable to send the message that “if we can’t all prosper right now, then none of us should prosper right now,” and his vitriol over the profitability of the Exxon Mobil Corporation played well with the crowd.

Yet Mr. Obama’s disdain for business “profits” has continued throughout his presidency. Fast forward to February 7th of 2011 when the President addressed an audience of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Speaking of the improving balance sheets that were emerging within many American companies at that time, President Obama stated:

“The benefits can’t just translate into greater bonuses and profits for those at the top. They have to be shared by American workers, who need to know that expanding trade and opening markets will lift their standards of living, as well as your bottom line…”

Of course, we’re talking here about our Ivy League-graduate President. Surely he, of all people, understands that profits aren’t simply “shared” - they are “earned.” And surely he realizes that when a company is profitable, it’s not merely the C.E.O. that benefits (investors, employees, and customers benefit from profitability as well). Certainly the President of the United States understands these most basic concepts of free market enterprise.

But we never hear that from our President. Nor do we hear much praise at all for successful, profitable enterprise from anybody in our government. It’s usually anger and disgust when profits are good, and promises of intervention and “stimulus” when profits are bad.

It’s a very self-serving and destructive game that our politicians play. And they will keep on playing, until Americans come to terms with profits.

Crystal Wright - Emperor Obama on Guns: Congress Get Your Act Together

Now Congress is a bunch of “shameful” liars, according to President Barack Obama because the Senate didn’t vote for a slew of gun control amendments he demanded. In his remarks about the Senate gun bill’s demise, Obama took his hypocrisy and insults to new heights, revealing an arrogance of power we haven’t seen since President Richard Nixon’s Watergate.

Never mind that some Democrat Senators voted against the expanded background check proposed by Senators Pat Toomey (R-PA) and Joe Manchin (D-W.VA), Obama lambasted Republicans. “90 percent of Republicans in the Senate just voted against that idea,” said Obama. He added, “the gun lobby and its allies willfully lied about the bill.”

No, not the National Rifle Association (NRA), Republicans and Democrats told the American people they didn’t think this sprawling bill with all its amendments would do anything to prevent gun violence.

“Would it have prevented the most recent acts of gun violence? In all likelihood, no,” said Senator John McCain, even though he supported the Manchin-Toomey amendment for expanded background checks at gun shows and other commercial sales.

Who do you think Obama is referring to when he uses the word “allies” of the gun lobby? Republicans. Throughout his remarks, Obama castigated and insulted both Republicans and Congress, as if he was running an empire and they were his subjects.

“So all in all, this was a pretty shameful day for Washington.”

“But we can do more if Congress gets its act together.“

Seriously? Does Obama think insulting Congress, which makes up a third of government, is the best way to accomplish immigration reform and come to an agreement with Republicans on the government’s budget? In his gun outrage, Obama kissed his second term goodbye.

Obama might have more luck with Congress if he treated them like an equal partner rather than lecturing members like children how bad they are or telling them what to do as though they were pupils to his will. Equally disturbing was the president accusing the gun lobby and its allies of “spreading untruths about this legislation” and being “better financed.” What a crock! When things don’t go Obama’s way, suddenly the definition of the democratic process is changed.

If anyone spread untruths about a piece of legislation, it was Obama, Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Senator Harry Reid about Obamacare. They lied how much it would cost. And the American people had no idea what was in the over 2,000 pages of the bill because as then-Speaker Pelosi said in 2010, “we have to pass the bill to see what’s in it.”

As for Obama accusing the NRA of being better financed then Democrats that’s disingenuous also. Obama founded Organizing for Action, which he claims is a non-profit but looks and smells just like a Super PAC replete with a donate button. Perhaps it’s time for Obama to do some truth telling and stop thinking Americans are stupid.

But the biggest slap in the face Obama gave to anyone in his White House gun rant was to black America. Everyone recalls the tragic story of Hadiya Pendleton being gunned down in Chicago January 29th, days after performing at Obama’s 2013 inaugural. The city of Chicago, from which Obama hails and represented as a U.S. Senator, is plagued by gun violence, specifically black on black gun violence.

Yet, Obama never mentioned Hadiya in his remarks or the grim statistics of blacks killing and being killed by guns at a higher rate than whites. He uttered the word Chicago once. But Obama referred to the tragedy of Newtown and Gabby Giffords. Obama invited parents of the 20 slain kids of Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown Connecticut to fly on Air Force One but never offered Hadiya’s parents a flight.

The fact is the Senate bill never had a chance. It was so larded down with amendments and emotions intended to grab headlines that it fell under its own weight. This president truly thinks he’s special because he’s the first black president (and may be our last) and Congress must bow to his will. He’s got a lot of learning to do.

Massad Ayoob - The President Is A Sore Loser

When I heard the news that the Senate had failed to pass a Universal Background Check, I was at a police seminar on the topic of active shooters. The panelists had agreed that “active shooter” was a poor descriptor, one noting that some attackers use other weapons, such as the blade-wielder in the recent Texas case. (And, of course, the Boston Marathon bombing was fresh in everyone’s mind.) Another panelist, a retired SWAT lieutenant who has responded to such things for real, pointed out that an active SHOOTER is what it takes to stop an active MURDERER.

When a retired police chief on the panel announced that he’d just received a text that the UBC had failed to make it through the Senate, the police audience erupted into applause. So much for the idea that cops all want to restrict your gun ownership. The real cops know where the problems are, and that they ain’t coming from people like you.

Alas, the White House is out of tune with that reality.

A very angry Chief Executive declares that Senators who see reality and prevent what’s best described as “the tyranny of the (uninformed) majority” have somehow subverted the process. He then manages, with practically the same lungful of air, to spout bogus statistics and simultaneously accuse those who told the truth of willful deception.

My favorite part was watching Vice President Biden’s face, in the Senate chamber during the vote and at the President’s side during the above-mentioned press conference shortly thereafter. The man does one hell of a good Grumpy Cat impersonation, and one “safu” on the Internet has come to the same conclusion.

Austin Hill - Can America “Minimum Wage” Itself To Prosperity?

What happens when the U.S. Secretary of Labor visits a church in Charlotte? If an incident earlier this month is any indication, faulty political promises and destructive economic policies continue to spread.

It took place on April 3rd. Acting U.S. Labor Secretary Seth Harris made an appearance at a Baptist Church in North Carolina’s largest city, along with Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx. He was visiting to promote President Obama’s proposal of elevating the federal minimum wage requirement from the current $7.25 to $9.00 an hour.

Harris and Foxx gathered in a large room within a Baptist church building. They sat in a large circle with several “average” (which means “hand-picked, pre-screened, and pre-approved by the Labor Department”) Americans living in Charlotte who work at jobs that pay only minimum wage. As news microphones and cameras caught all the action, Harris facilitated a “discussion” with the minimum wage earning Charlottean’s, and explained how their lives would benefit from the President’s new proposed mandate.

Harris told the group participants that if the minimum wage requirement was raised to $9 an hour, a full-time worker at the current minimum wage would earn an extra $3,500 more per year. A total of 557,000 workers in North Carolina “would directly benefit from that proposal,” he said, noting that President Obama is seeking to “lift people out of poverty” by imposing this new proposed requirement.

It all sounded so good. But in reality, there were problems.

For one, mere laws don’t “lift people out of poverty” – genuine wealth creation does. Using the force of government to mandate that a business owner pays a worker a specific wage does not ensure that wealth is being created. On the contrary, such laws are coercive mechanisms of wealth redistribution, and they only ensure that an increasing amount of existing wealth is taken away from one individual or group and transferred to another.

History, even recent history over the course of our lifetimes, demonstrates this. While roughly half of the world’s population -about 3 billion people - live in measurable poverty today, the other roughly 3 billion are measurably “middle class,” and mostly facing upward mobility.

So what has happened to the more fortunate 3 billion? We have not been “minimum waged” to wealth. We’ve been fortunate to live in countries where we’ve been relatively free to privately own property and advance in the marketplace and amass wealth for ourselves.

The best examples of this have been post-World War II Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong, along with the increasingly liberated economies of China and India. Many Americans seem oblivious to this capitalistic, free market transformation that has taken place over the last few decades – surely if we were aware of this we wouldn’t have elected our current crop of politicians who are taking us in the exact opposite direction – but the transformation is nonetheless real.

Another problem with Harris’ promises is that they are based on the false assumptions that government bureaucrats understand the inner-workings of a business than a business owner does, and that government mandates always produce their desired outcomes. Can every small business in Charlotte – or anywhere else in the U.S. – afford to “absorb” the increased labor costs that will ensure with a higher minimum wage mandate? Harris is frequently asked about the un-intended consequences of his policy proposals, and will frequently say “I reject the notion that this kills jobs.”

Did you hear that business owners? He “rejects” it, so it is obviously not a concern. In fact, Harris promised the minimum wage earning Charlotteans that raising the minimum wage requirement will actually improve wages overall, and stimulate job creation.

Harris, by the way, took no time at all in Charlotte to meet with the business owners that would be impacted by the proposed wage mandate. When you have degrees from elite schools, and your work experience is based exclusively in the worlds of academia and law, and you wield the power of government (these characteristics describe both Harris and Barack Obama), it’s easy, apparently, to believe in the infallibility of your ideas. There’s no sense wasting time on the “non-believers.”

For now, Americans have put their collective trust in politicians who have promised to re-distribute us all to a better, “more fair” existence. Let us hope and pray that we see the error of our ways – before the country is irreparably damaged.
