Star Parker - Urban Problem Bigger Than Detroit
We are now hearing the usual voices of protest in Detroit in the wake of Michigan governor Rick Snyder appointing an outside expert to take over financial management of the near-bankrupt city.Detroit is the largest city in American history to be seized in this fashion and turned over to an outside manager.
Reported deficit of the city is $327 million dollars and long-term liabilities are in the range of $14 billion.
But no matter to the unions, politicians, and bureaucrats who have been at the helm for years as the city has spiraled into the depths of the black hole in which it now finds itself. These interest groups, who have been the driving force behind this fiscal travesty, have one interest – to keep their respective beds feathered. Citizens and public welfare be damned.
So they cry foul when adult supervision is sent in to take on the formidable rescue task.
The man Governor Snyder has put in charge, Kevin Orr, is a high-powered Washington, DC black attorney who, according to USA Today, “has extensive experience in municipal finances, public infrastructure projects, public pension matters, and litigation.”
Al Sharpton’s man in Detroit, Rev. Charles Williams III, has called Orr an “Uncle Tom.”
The travesty now taking place in Detroit should be carefully watched by all Americans. This is not a one off exception to the rule, but is just the latest case study of a pathology dragging down the whole nation. And it’s a pathology for which low-income minority Americans are paying the dearest price.
Economist Dr. Walter Williams has noted that the common denominator of the nation’s ten poorest cities with populations over 250,000, of which Detroit is number one, is that they all have been controlled by liberal, Democratic mayors for decades, the majority of which have been black.
Detroit’s former mayor, Kwame Kilpatrick, son of former congresswoman and Congressional Black Caucus member Carolyn Cheeks-Kilpatrick, is now in jail awaiting sentencing after being convicted on 24 counts for running a criminal enterprise out of the mayor’s office.
The point is that we need to discern a rule of thumb here: the more that human lives are governed by compulsion and entitlement rather than freedom, choice, and personal responsibility, the outcomes are uniformly undesirable.
Compulsion and entitlement, meaning liberal government and union power, means less service, less efficiency, more fraud, corruption, and waste, and insensitivity to changes in the marketplace.
If we are going to save our cities, we need to get back to what built them in the first place: freedom, enterprise, and entrepreneurship.
It took a hurricane and a flood to wake up and turn around the basket case that was New Orleans. Ray Nagin, New Orleans’ mayor during Katrina, who blamed everyone but himself for the debacle that occurred, was just indicted on 21 counts of corruption.
New Orleans is now undergoing a renaissance. The public school system was turned over to a charter operator and the number of failing schools has dropped and test scores are improving.
Low taxes and a new spirit of entrepreneurship, spurred by such imaginative initiatives as Idea Village, has kept unemployment in New Orleans at less than two-thirds the national average.
Let’s get going with ideas like urban enterprise zones, championed by the late Congressman Jack Kemp, and now by economist Art Laffer, and give preferential tax treatment to employers and employees in blighted urban areas.
Abolish the minimum wage in these areas and give kids a chance at entry-level jobs and learning critical job skills.
The possibilities are only limited by our courage and imagination. But only one theme will save our large, urban cities, and their poor minority citizens.
Get them out from under political and union control and restore freedom, competition, and entrepreneurship.

Matt Barber - Defeating the Islamo-‘Progressive’ Axis
There’s evidently a fine line between a “hate crime” and a BLT.The Reuters headline screamed: “Bacon found at NY Muslim celebration probed as possible hate crime.” I was expecting the subtitle: “Cops bring lettuce & tomato, dispose of evidence,” but to no avail. (Pork, of course, is verboten in Islamic culture. Don’t knock it, I say.)
Condemnation was swift and judgment final: “It’s anti-Islamic sentiment – a sign they don’t want us to feel welcome,” charged Cyrus McGoldrick, spokesman for the New York chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, or CAIR.
Indeed, at the very least such a stupid, “Islamophobic” prank was, um, tasteless.
Except that it wasn’t.
A caller to a local newspaper took credit for the crime: “This is-I was reading the article about the horrible incident of bacon and Muslims in the park and I wanted to let you know that is not my intention. I had put the bacon there. It was going bad in my trunk and I put it out for the scavengers like the opossums and the raccoons and sea gulls, and I did not intend for that to cause anybody any problems.”
So, apparently, knee-jerk liberals and mainstream media have egg on their face once again. (Add toast and you get a Denny’s Grand Slam.)
Let’s put aside for a moment that we live in a hyper-sensitive, politically correct culture wherein hurting someone’s feelings is, quite literally, a federal offense. I’m more interested in the blaring double standard.
Bacon at a Muslim picnic? “Hate crime.” A crucifix with the image of Christ submerged in urine? “Art.”
I know, there was that time a group of tea-partiers stormed the mosque in Lansing, Mich, threw Oscar Mayer ham slices on the children, mocked the women for their hijabs and screamed: “Mohammed slept with a nightlight!” but …
No, actually, it was a group of homosexual activists who stormed a Christian church in Lansing, Mich, threw condoms at people, committed gross displays of public perversion in front of children and screamed, “Jesus was gay!”
“Hate crime, right?” Not a chance. Not even a ticket. In fact, law enforcement knew about the “protest” in advance and refused to send police. They sent a reporter instead.
You get the point.
Indeed, secular-“progressive” hostility toward Christianity is at an all-time high. But it’s not just “gay” activists and other “progressive” extremists. It’s systemic. It’s Democrat-tested and Obama-approved.
The Family Research Council, or FRC – no stranger to violent “hate crimes” that somehow aren’t “hate crimes” – has released a study cataloging a vast sampling of the left’s anti-Christian attacks. (The study can be found at ReligiousHostility.org. I highly recommend you review it before stepping into the voting booth this November.)
Yet the same “progressives” who find “homophobia” under every bed, and “Islamophobia” around each corner, have never imagined the cancerous “Christaphobia” that courses throughout their very own veins. Their narrow little minds won’t allow it. The poor sap with hateful halitosis is usually the last to know.
Still, what’s most remarkable is that secular-“progressives” and Islamists – such as the aforementioned CAIR and President Obama’s “Muslim Brotherhood” pals – have forged a bizarre and notably incongruous sociopolitical partnership.
Consider, for instance, that central to Muslim teaching is the mandate that homosexuals, when discovered, are to be summarily executed. Yet, homosexual activists and other liberals are usually the first to cry “Islamophobia” if anyone points out the bloody precepts central to mainstream Islamic dogma.
And how about women? Well, according to Islamic law – again, mainstream, not fringe – women are treated as chattel and can be beaten with impunity for any reason or no reason at all.
Yet liberal feminists – “tolerant” to a fault when it serves their agenda – will trip over themselves to ignore such “cultural diversity.”
The only explanation, as far as I can tell, is best illustrated by the maxim: “The enemy of my enemy is my friend.”
But, who is this common enemy?
Well, it too is signified by an alliance. This alliance, however, is most simpatico. It consists of Christians and Jews worldwide. It too is built around a shared cause.
But unlike that of the Islamo-“progressive” axis, this cause intends freedom, not tyranny – representative democracy, not control. Most importantly, this Judeo-Christian cause is built upon the rock of truth given us by the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The God of the living, not the dead. The great “I Am.”
I’m currently reading the two-part work, “Democracy in America,” written by Alexis De Tocqueville in 1835. The French statesman and historian immersed himself in American society and was left stunned by the indissoluble synthesis of Christianity and American culture.
He observed at the time that in America, “Christianity is the companion of liberty in all its conflicts – the cradle of its infancy, and the divine source of its claims.”
“There is no country in the world where the Christian religion retains a greater influence over the souls of men than in America, and there can be no greater proof of its utility and of its conformity to human nature than that its influence is powerfully felt over the most enlightened and free nation of the earth.”
“The Americans combine the notions of Christianity and of liberty so intimately in their minds,” wrote De Tocqueville, “that it is impossible to make them conceive the one without the other.”
Impossible so it must have seemed. Regrettably, however, De Tocqueville could never have foreseen today’s Islamo-“progressive” machine. It relentlessly endeavors to stifle Christianity’s profound influence on America.
Indeed, that influence will surly continue to fade lest Christians – both individually and corporately – again shine bright as the morning sun.
The historical record is indisputable. For almost two-and-a-half centuries, biblical Christianity has been America’s moral compass. It was Christians who, as wrote De Tocqueville, made America “the most enlightened and free nation of the earth.”
We’ve lost that moral compass and, today, wander aimlessly in the wilderness as a result. It’s up to Christian America to again find the way.
We must.
For if we don’t lead, who then will the world follow?

Homosexual Activists and Liberal Progressives Call for Boycott of Chick-Fil-A
“We are very much supportive of the family – the biblical definition of the family unit, We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that. … We know that it might not be popular with everyone, but thank the Lord, we live in a country where we can share our values and operate on biblical principles.”Dan Cathy CEO Chick-Fil-A

Stop the Liberal Progressive Insanity in 2012
When the Industrial age began, people flocked to where the work was in the Cities and left the countryside and farms in hope of a better life and a brighter future. Blacks flocked to cities after the Civil war to find jobs and a future.
When other countries began manufacturing cheaper products, jobs began to leave America because of high Union labor costs and Federal and local taxes, many people were left without a way to provide for themselves and their families. Governments began to pay people to stay where they were and even provided them with food and housing.
These Government assistance policies or benefits locked people in place.
Liberal Politicians knew that it was easier to tax and control the population by confining humans in densely packed urban areas.
When more and more people needed and used these benefits, they became dependent upon the Government and began to demand more and more benefits.
At first, there were enough workers to spread the burden of carrying others on their backs.
People and businesses began leaving the urban areas to escape this burden, so taxes had to be raised on the remaining workers and businesses which caused even more to flee.
This vicious cycle has produced cities like Detroit, where those dependent on the Government elected only officials who promised to not only keep the status quo, but promised even more benefits and subsidies.
The cities are becoming worse than third world countries and this decline will not only get worse it is spreading to the suburban areas.
These Government (Liberal) policies began causing new problems.
Government Public Housing concentrated people with nothing to do, because they were paid to do nothing - 'Idleness is the Devils Workshop'.
Crime became highly concentrated in these areas which produced 'Cottage Industries' of prostitution, illegal drug sales, burglars, robbers and other things for those confined in these 'Virtual Crime Centers' to produce supplemental income.
Gangs began to 'Spring Up', to protect the 'Turf' of those engaged in the illegal activities.
Local Government costs began 'Sky Rocketing' which caused even higher taxes and more workers to flee to the suburbs, which by then were experiencing even more 'Decay' themselves.
Local Governments began appealing to the Federal Government for money to help subsidize Police, Education, Hospitals and various things the Local Governments no longer had the funds to operate - this resulted in higher Federal and Corporate taxes and American businesses began out sourcing work or even leaving America to escape the burden of high taxes.
The Federal Government by design or ignorance or a combination of both, began attacking the problems of pollution, caused by more people driving from the Suburbs to the Cities.
Mass transportation became a priority to lessen pollution and bring more workers back into the cities, where they Politicians began finding ways of taxing those workers.
The Federal Government found that High Gasoline prices not only caused less driving of auto mobiles but also had the desirous effect (to the Government), of people moving back to the Cities.
Barack Obama like most Marxists and Governmental theorists, think this 'Cycle of Ignorance' can be solved by even more taxes and more Government intervention, rather then realizing that Government is the root cause of the problem.
Barack Obama and his 'Liberal Minions' realized the 'Fruit of their Labors' in 2008, when those Encapsulated 'Government Crime Zones' (big Cities) voted in droves for the continuance of being housed, fed and clothed on the backs of the Producers (those who actually pay taxes).
Barack Obama has promised to continue this Liberal Madness.
"Obama will create 20 Promise Neighborhoods in cities across the nation that have high levels of poverty and crime and low levels of student academic achievement...to an entire neighborhood from birth to college."

Doug Giles - Occupy Your Third Graders
This month a report surfaced of 3rd graders in Charlottesville, Virginia singing a song that the kiddos wrote (or so we were told) about being part of the 99% “Occupiers.” Here is a sample of the lyrics that the 9-year-olds supposedly drafted and then crooned for their comrades in class.
In addition, I didn’t know 3rd graders were the playboy proprietors of Piaggio Avantis. Geez, where have I been?!
The good news is that when the parents of said kids found out their children were singing this socialistic slop—which praises the virtues of mediocrity—they wanted to know what Trotskyite was brainwashing their kids through song.
Upon inquiry, the school told the parents that their young ‘uns came up with this class warfare smack all by their lonesome. Matter of fact, the Albemarle County School Board Chairman, Stephen Koleszar, vigorously denied they were influenced at all by any outside source.
Well, Koleszar’s lies got shot to hell by the facts this week when Paul Reisler, the director of the group Kid Pan Alley, an outside musical company that “empowers kids through music,” confessed to messing with your child’s mind with Occupy overtones in their opera.
Note to offended parents and concerned citizens: You ought to call Stephen Koleszarand let him know you don’t appreciate that kind of refuse in the classroom. Be kind. But be firm. Don’t stoop to the level of the occupiers with their insane and inane vile verbosity.
Here’s another ditty for the progenitors of kids in public school: If I currently had children in public school, I would demand to read their textbooks, and I’d grill my bambinos every day to find out what kind of stuff they got sold before the final bell. I think you’d be shocked.
Oh, and teachers, if you don’t dig socialism and believe it’s a failed, enslaving economic nightmare, be sure to blow the whistle on any internal or external blowhards weaseling their way into our little ones’ noggins via the classroom. It’s just a suggestion.
Now, in the spirit of free enterprise, capitalism and American exceptionalism I say turnabout is fair play and that we should counter the communistic class warfare tunes turned out by the infiltrators of our children’s world by teaching our kids a song of opportunity and greatness instead of weakness and envy.
P.S. Here’s another example of how the progressives are gunning for kids, through song, in the public school. Bizarre.

I used to be sad, now I’m satisfiedQuestion: What booger-eating, chunky, freckled public school 3rd grader (who has yet to master coloring within the lines of his coloring book and lives in a double-wide down by Rock Crick) has earned enough capital to have bought and lost a 60-foot Viking in landlocked Charlottesville? Answer: Uh, none.
’Cause I really have enough
Though I lost my yacht and plane
Didn’t need that extra stuff
Could have been much worse
You don’t need to be first
’Cause I’ve got my friends
Here by my side
Don’t need it all
I’m so happy to be part of the 99

These Socialists Are Weird.Get your 3rd graders singing this song. If you videotape your group singing it and email it to me, I’ll post the best video in next week’s column.
Why do you try to enslave me
In the public school?
Education has escaped me
Listening to you fools.
Oh, God, help me escape this class
And free me like a bird
I don’t wanna be an envious jackass
Like these occuturds.
Liberate me from these whiners
Who gripe and moan and bray
Put me around some winners
Who see opportuna-tay.

Mary Grabar - News Flash! Progressives Hail 'Founding Fathers,' Praise The Constitution
In a turn-around that made the Dissident Prof’s head spin more than Linda Blair’s in The Exorcist, the Center for American Progress, the think tank co-founded by George Soros, posted several articles and held conferences praising (gasp!) the founding fathers. The respectful reference comes in an article posted last month on the organization’s web page, and co-authored by the organization’s longtime President and CEO, now chairman of the board, John Podesta, President Clinton’s Chief of Staff. CAP has been described as first being “the official Hillary Clinton think tank,” and then as the major source of advisors for President Barack Obama.Dissident Prof discovered that CAP’s public display of this new-found love for the founders goes back to at least 2010, as witness this article in which this shocking sentence was found: “Progressives throughout history have venerated the ideals of America’s Founding, particularly as expressed in the Declaration of Independence.”
What? Dissident Prof almost choked on her leftover Thanksgiving turkey. Those slave-holding, earth-and-woman (and probably animal) raping xenophobic, reactionary, greedy capitalist patriarchs? This was not what all the textbooks she had been required to use and all the feminist and postmodernist criticism she had had to read in graduate school had said.
This was something that she, as the kids like to say, could not wrap her head around (in spite of its dizzying rotation). But as always, Dissident Prof is worried about the effect on students, for CAP has many student outreach and pedagogical propaganda programs, like Campus Progress. Have all the teachers across the land been instructed in this new dictum? Will they be giving bad grades to those students who have diligently been reading their Howard Zinn textbooks and who continue in the old vein when they write their journal entries and present their collaborative projects? How will their dutifully memorized characterizations about the founding fathers as white privileged European males who plundered the land, who exterminated peace-loving Natives who recycled, and who set up the government to ensure that they as a class would control all the wealth for perpetuity be met by teachers? Have the memos been sent to all teachers and professors about this new estimation of the founding fathers?
Dissident Prof, after she administered herself smelling salts, re-read the opening line of the article titled “The Constitution Is Inherently Progressive”:
“Progressives disagree strongly with tea party views on government, taxation, public spending, regulations and social welfare policies. But we credit the movement for focusing public debate on our nation’s history, the Constitution and the core beliefs that shape American life.”
Recalling her assigned deep reading of Jacques Derrida, she zeroed in and deconstructed the reference to “tea party.”
What? Not tea-baggers? Not Astro-turfing, fascistic, racist reactionaries? Did she note a change of tone?
Taking a swig of her cheap white wine, she calmed herself enough to read carefully. Aha! She should have known. She always has to give progressive students a D for content on their papers, for they provide very little support for their claims. And while she might acknowledge their facility with language and high-flown turns of phrase, she almost always has to bring down their grade for logical contradictions. Progressive students are the ones most likely to whine about getting a low grade on a paper that has very little red ink on it. They also have difficulty understanding that a paper with no substance cannot earn a high grade.
Although Dissident Prof will not recap entire class lectures to John Podesta and fellow CAP scribes, she will give just a hint of the many, many ways they misrepresent the founding fathers.
First, their contention that the founders were “radicals” is farthest from the truth. The Constitution is based on a careful study of governments from the ancients on. It is based on a realistic assessment of history and human nature. The founding fathers did not work in the academy or think tanks, but had experience in the real world; they worked in professions like the law or ministry. They were craftsmen, farmers, and inventors, but yet were widely read; they were respectful of tradition and retained a lapsarian view of man.
Based on his extensive reading and study, Father of the Constitution, James Madison, in Federalist 10, warned about a “pure democracy.” Anticipating Karl Marx, the SDS, and lice-infested OWS protestors in “general assemblies,” Madison wrote, “Theoretic politicians, who have patronized this species of government, have erroneously supposed that by reducing mankind to a perfect equality in their political rights, they would, at the same time, be perfectly equalized and assimilated in their possessions, their opinions, and their passions.” In fact, Madison acknowledges the inevitability of factions that are based on “the various and unequal distribution of property.”
Progressives, however, herald social programs that increasingly redistribute wealth. The attempt to eliminate factions, or special interests, through equalizing property is an evil that contradicts the purpose of government, which is to protect the individual and his property. Madison, at the end of Federalist 10, in fact, calls the “equal division of property” a “wicked project.”
But this is what CAP presents about the Constitution:
Much of the conservative rhetoric against progressive treatments of America’s founding revolves around criticism of the belief that the Constitution is “living law”. . . . Progressives have argued since the days of Thomas Jefferson that the Constitution is not a fixed, static document that locks future generations of Americans into late 18th century constitutional interpretations. The genius of the Constitution lies in its ability to adapt to the changing norms and knowledge of new eras. The Founders wanted citizens to draw on the best available evidence and evolving understandings of democracy to keep the spirit of individual liberty and political equality alive. That’s not what Founder George Washington writes in his Farewell Address:
Towards the preservation of your government, and the permanency of your present happy state, it is requisite, not only that you steadily discountenance irregular oppositions to its acknowledged authority, but that you resist with care the spirit of innovation upon its principles, however, specious the pretexts. One method of assault may be to effect, in the forms of the Constitution, alterations which will impair the energy of the system, and thus to undermine what cannot be directly overthrown.Like Madison, Washington urged Americans to rely on experience: “the credit of mere hypothesis and opinion, exposes to perpetual change, from the endless variety of hypothesis and opinion.” Strict adherence to the Constitution, Washington says, “is sacredly obligatory upon all.”
Podesta, et al, are like many students that Dissident Prof has had over the years: They have not read the assignment. Yet, these are the same students who expound in class with their “opinions.”
If she were in a generous mood, and if the progressive student were sufficiently obsequious, she would allow for a rewrite.
But most progressives don’t want to go back and actually read originals. Instead, having grown up in pampered circumstances, they insist that their opinions are all that matter. Often they drop classes where they are asked to think logically and read the assignments. They’re able to find many, many other professors who value their opinions so long as they agree with their own. They get their degrees and then find others with similar opinions in the academy and think tanks. They end up at places like the Center for American Progress, an institution that received over $5.5 million from George Soros’s Open Society Institute between 2005 and 2009, placing it at number 14 in the top recipients, according to the Soros Files. They end up working for Podesta, who served as an Independent Advisory Council member of ACORN, and who worked for Senator Patrick Leahy, an advocate of circumventing the Constitution by gaining control of the federal courts. During his long tenure in the Clinton White House, Podesta was known for his innovative “Project Podesta,” which according to Discover the Networks, “enabled the President to bypass Congress through the use of executive orders, presidential decision directives, White-House-sponsored lawsuits, vacancy appointments to high federal office, selective regulatory actions against targeted corporations, and a host of other extra-constitutional tactics.”
From such think tanks where they engage in theoretical speculations, they aim “to undermine what cannot be directly overthrown.” If it means reversing course rhetorically when they see the new-found respect for the Constitution the Tea Party inspired, they will do it. As students remember from World War II history, it’s not the first time anti-American subversives have reversed course.
Mary Grabar
Mary Grabar is a writer and college English teacher, whose parents escaped from Slovenia in 1959 and spent a year in a refugee camp in Austria. They immigrated to Rochester, New York, when she was two.
Her views have been formed by experiences as an immigrant during the racial violence in Rochester in the 1960s and then at her alma mater, Benjamin Franklin Junior-Senior High School.
She tried to be a liberal, but then quickly realized that it was an exclusive club. Her conversion to conservatism was cinched when she returned to school in the master's program in English in the 1990's.
In spite of the hostility of most of the faculty and the torture of having to wade through postmodern nonsense, she earned her Ph.D. from the University of Georgia in 2002.
Mary Grabar is a frequent Columnist at Town Hall.com and writes articles for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Newspaper.

Paul Ryan - Saving the American Idea: Rejecting Fear, Envy and the Politics of Division
"We’re here today to explore the American Idea, and I can’t think of a better venue for this topic. The mission of the Heritage Foundation is to promote the principles of free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional American values, and a strong national defense. These are the principles that define the American Idea. And this mission has never been timelier, because these principles are very much under threat from policies here in Washington.
The American Idea belongs to all of us – inherited from our nation’s Founders, preserved by the countless sacrifices of our veterans, and advanced by visionary leaders, past and present.
What makes America exceptional – what gives life to the American Idea – is our dedication to the self-evident truth that we are all created equal, giving us equal rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And that means opportunity."
Rep. Paul Ryan

Congressional Progressive Caucus
The Congressional Progressive Caucus (CPC) consists of one United States Senator and seventy five members of the United States House of Representatives, and is the largest caucus within the House Democratic Caucus.
The Congressional Progressive Caucus has gone underground in respect to their connection to the Democratic Socialists of America. Their roster is no longer published on the DSA website and they no longer publicly acknowledge their loyalty to the socialist organization.
There is a marked difference between a Liberal and a Liberal Progressive in the United States.
Generally speaking, a Liberal wants to tax and spend under the current Government process to maintain and advance 'Social Programs' for selected preferred Collectivist groups e.g. the poor, racial minorities, Homosexuals etc.
The term Liberal Progressive simply means 'Democratic Socialist'; a belief that all means of production should be controlled or owned by the Federal Government, in order to 'Share the Wealth' through redistribution and bring about 'Social Justice'.
Social Justice (Socialism) wants 'Equal Outcomes' based on the theory that all humans would do well, if given the proper Social Justice.
Liberal Progressivism stresses 'Human Interdependence', rather than the importance of Individual Rights, Individual Goals, Individual success and Individual determination.
Liberal Progressives want a Minimum of private ownership and a maximum of 'Centrally Controlled' planned economy or State ownership of wealth (capital)
