Matt Barber - Memo to Christian Troops: We’ve Got Your Back
When NBA basketball player Jason Collins recently announced to the world that he’s sexually attracted to other men, Michelle Obama tweeted, “So proud of you, Jason Collins! This is a huge step forward for our country. We’ve got your back!” Jason even got a personal call from the president.Lovely.
But even as the Obama administration is busy validating lifestyle choices and values that fly in the face of sexual morality, this president is just as busy undermining the free exercise of the very Christian faith that dares to acknowledge morality even exists.
President Obama’s Pentagon recently released a statement threatening military personnel: “Religious proselytization is not permitted within the Department of Defense … Court Martials and nonjudicial punishments are decided on a case-by-case basis.”
Merriam Webster’s defines “proselytization” as an attempt “to recruit or convert especially to a new faith, institution, or cause.” Sounds an awful lot like the Pentagon is threatening to court-martial any service member who obeys Christ’s central command to “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation” (Mark 16:15). Hard to read it any other way.
And so, to any member of the armed services who is harassed, demeaned, reprimanded or charged by this Obama Pentagon with obeying Jesus – with endeavoring to “recruit or convert” others to His exclusive saving grace – we at Liberty Counsel are delighted to say, “We’ve Got your back!” Free of charge. Pro bono legal defense.
How are we able to do this? Through the generous financial and prayer support of more than 1.2 million Liberty Counsel donors and supporters. So please, get this information to every member of the armed forces you know. If you (or they) are being persecuted in any way, at any time for sharing the love of Christ, let us know. Call us right away at 1-800-671-1776, or by emailing us at liberty@lc.org.
“Making it a crime to share your faith is outrageous and morally unconscionable,” said Mat Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel. “There has never been an administration more committed to its secularist philosophy at the expense of religious liberty. Liberty Counsel will do whatever is necessary to defend the religious liberty of our men and women who defend our liberties in the armed services,” promised Staver.
You’re trained to fight. So are we. You risk your lives to defend us every day. Let us risk our time and resources to defend you. It’s the least we can do. We’d count it a high honor.
I’ve got news for Barack Obama. In America, serving God and serving country are not mutually exclusive. They never have been. In fact, until this president came along, the two went hand-in-hand.
In his farewell address, George Washington underscored the critical role religion and morality play to our nation’s survival. He warned of people like Barack Obama and Mikey Weinstein. “Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, Religion and Morality are indispensable supports,” he said.
“In vain would that man claim the tribute of Patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of Men and Citizens. … [R]eason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.”
It seems the central goal of this president and his Pentagon is to do that – to “subvert religion and morality” wherever they find it. George Washington called that unpatriotic.
I agree.
Mark Twain once wrote, “The secret of success is making your vocation your vacation.” Twain’s sage advice seems a slight variation of Ecclesiastes 9:10: “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might …” In short, if you want to find happiness, find what God created you to and do it well. Do what you love and you’ll love what you do.
I love working for Liberty Counsel. I’m incredibly blessed to part of one of the fastest growing (if not the fastest growing) civil rights organizations in America.
Every brave service man or woman I’ve ever known loves serving this great nation. Every Christian I’ve ever known loves serving the one Holy and Sovereign Creator of the universe – King Jesus.
If President Obama or any other anti-Christian radicals believe the American people are going to just lie down and allow them to rip God from country, they’ve got another thing coming.
I’m always proud of what we do at Liberty Counsel, but, having served 12 years in the military, I’m especially proud right now. It can’t be easy, laboring under an incompetent commander in chief who, over and again, has displayed overt hostility toward Washington’s “indispensable pillars” of religion and morality. It can’t be easy to serve under a president who constantly attacks your faith and freedom.
“It is beyond ironic that this administration chose to attack the religious liberties of the men and women who are charged with defending our nation’s freedom across the country and around the world,” Staver said.
“The military has a unique relationship with chaplains in order to meet the spiritual needs of our soldiers. To threaten court-martial to anyone who shares their faith is reprehensible and un-American. This absurd policy will undermine the military and destroy morale. It must be rescinded immediately, and those responsible for instituting it should be disciplined.”
But until then – and once again – to those in the military, don’t forget: Stand tall and proclaim your faith loudly and proudly. If Obama tries to muzzle you, don’t sweat it. Liberty Counsel’s got your back.

Krista Branch - Foreign Land
"I watched the flag pass by one day,It fluttered in the breeze;
A young Marine saluted it,
And then he stood at ease.
I looked at him in uniform,
So young, so tall, so proud;
With hair cut square and eyes alert,
He'd stand out in any crowd.
I thought... how many men like him
Had fallen through the years?
How many died on foreign soil?
How many mothers' tears?"

"Independence Day" by Chip Murray
The affirmation by our Founders in the Declaration of Independence that all men “are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights” establishes a Law and obligation higher than human government to which governments are obligated. This is the true foundation of American Freedom. It is why our Constitutioin, first and foremost, protects us from government, itself. -- Ronald Reagan"Independence Day" by Chip Murray

Doug Giles - Here’s to All the Bernie Deghands
Author's note: This tribute was written by my good friend Steve Sheldon.
This Memorial Day, while you are enjoying your class reunion, family get-together, outdoor barbeque, or an extra day off work, please remember all the Bernie Deghands who died serving this great country so that you can enjoy the freedoms that have been bought and paid for with real lives of real people. When the Stars and Stripes bows at half staff and flutters proudly in the breeze, think about their pain, their broken bodies, their final moments, see their faces, reflect on their sacrifice, pray for their families, remember their parents, wives, and children. This is why we have Memorial Day.
Bernie was a character of all characters. The only time that I wasn’t laughing at Bernie was when his sometimes cruel sense of humor was directed at me. He spared no one and his career paid the price many times. Bernie was demoted more times than I was ever promoted, even serving time in the brig for decking an officer. The only rank that Bernie didn’t have twice was Master Sergeant only because he was promoted posthumously. Bernie always did what needed to be done and said what needed to be said, regardless of who was offended. He was quick with an insult, which was uproariously funny as long as it was at someone else’s expense. That being said, he was also an excellent soldier.
One could always count on Bernie to show the way or to help you with a difficult task. He might have ridiculed you for not knowing, but I think secretly, he took great pride in helping out his teammates. There are far too many stories to share for this medium from the naked Bernie walking across the AO in his web gear, boots, and Kevlar helmet, to the all-pro wrestling moves, to the million practical jokes, to the fourteen stitches and scar on the top of my head resulting from a rock throwing contest which he probably won.
Bernie was taken from us on 15 September, 2006 in a firefight near Kandahar, Afghanistan. I do not know the circumstances of his death, but I am sure that he went down in the thick of it all. He wouldn’t have had it any other way.
Bernie left behind a wife, two daughters and a step son, brothers and sisters, and parents that miss his sense of humor at every family function. He will never be there for his children again, never. No birthdays, no graduations, no fishing trips, no weekend outings, no impromptu wrestling matches, no canoe trips, no first dates, no proms, no weddings, no grandchildren’s births, nothing. Never.
Bernie and countless others died so that you and others might be free, even those in foreign lands who can now enjoy their own freedoms, only a dream just a few short years ago. Was it worth it? I guess it depends on what’s done with those freedoms. What are you doing with yours? Are you doing your part? Do you cherish them? Do you guard them like precious jewels?
If you see me at a ceremony, don’t mind me if I get misty eyed. Don’t mind my children when they ask a little too loudly, “Mommy, why does Daddy always get tears in his eyes during the National Anthem?” Help me to teach them that we live in the greatest country the world has ever known only because others have made it so. Help me to teach them that patriotism isn’t a political act, but it is Duty, Honor, Country. Support me in teaching them that the Flag of the United States is a symbol to be cherished, loved, and defended. Help me impart to them that Freedom Isn’t Free.
Let us train our children to stand vigilant, guarding day and night those hard fought freedoms from those who would take them away in the name of safety, security, or convenience where the real reason is greed, envy, or political power. We are the greatest nation in the world because we are free. The right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is a birthright given to us by those who paid the ultimate price, like Bernie. Honor their sacrifice and guard those freedoms diligently so that their suffering is not in vain.
Here’s to all the Bernies this Memorial Day. May they rest in peace, and may the rest of us honor their memory this day.

Ronald Reagan - D-Day speech in 1984 one of Reagan's most memorable
In one of the most memorable speeches of his presidency, Ronald Reagan stood at the beaches of Normandy and described how Army Rangers on D-Day had scaled cliffs and defeated enemy troops who were firing down on them."The air was dense with smoke and the cries of men, and the air was filled with the crack of rifle fire and the roar of cannon. ... The Rangers looked up and saw the enemy soldiers at the edge of the cliffs shooting down at them with machine guns and throwing grenades. And the American Rangers began to climb. ...Two hundred and twenty-five came here, After two days of fighting, only 90 could still bear arms. These are the boys of Pointe du Hoc. ... These are the champions who helped free a continent. These are the heroes who helped end a war."

Jeannie DeAngelis - Making the ‘Military Pay’
Originally posted at American Thinker
Barack Obama is showing his hand by using the military as guinea pigs in what is soon to be one of many social experiments initiated by ObamaCare. If the President's proposed plan to place an increased burden for healthcare costs on military families and retirees is any indication of how the Obama family interprets "Joining Forces," then we civilians are in dire straits.
How is the Barack Obama choosing to say
"thank you...mobilize, take action and make a real commitment to supporting military families?" Why, it's to ask American heroes who preserve our freedoms to "pay sharply more for their healthcare."
Remember back in 2009 when the President said "If you like your health care plan, you can keep your health care plan?" Word to the wise: Don't bet on it.
It appears as if the move to raise health care costs on the military is a stealthy attempt to shuttle the first busload onto the ObamaCare state-run insurance exchange rolls. In this case, the initial group just happens to be outfitted in military fatigues. A congressional aide involved in the issue said, "When [Obama administration officials] talked to us, they did mention the option of healthcare exchanges under ObamaCare. So it's in their mind."
According to Bill Gertz at the Washington Free Beacon, "Administration officials told Congress that one goal of the increased fees is to force military retirees to reduce their involvement in Tricare and eventually opt out of the program in favor of alternatives established by the 2010 Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, aka ObamaCare." Bingo!
So if hippie-dippy liberal baby-boomer types believe that right about the time they need that pacemaker, trusty old Blue Cross/Blue Shield will be there to help make it happen, they're in for one big surprise.
Many in the military are pointing out that "The disparity in treatment between civilian and uniformed personnel is causing a backlash within the military that could undermine recruitment and retention."
What the proposed increases should also do is issue a clarion call to every American that just like ObamaCare military health coverage is government-run, the government is obviously in a budgetary crunch, and so health care benefits provided by the government are now being negatively affected by the government that originally instituted them.
The "proposed increases in health care payments by service members, which must be approved by Congress, are part of the Pentagon's $487 billion cut in spending." According to the Pentagon, the cuts "seek to save $1.8 billion from the Tricare medical system in the fiscal 2013 budget and $12.9 billion by 2017."
There's nothing like asking the America's armed services to pay the bills for spending that Obama refuses to curtail. Does patriotic service to our nation now require promoting "fairness" by coughing up the extra dough needed to dole out free cell phones, food stamps, and government-funded abortions?
Under the proposed plan, the Pentagon would gain most of its savings from "under-65 and Medicare-eligible military retirees by forcing them to endure a tiered increase in annual Tricare premiums that will be based on annual retirement pay." It's kind of a "useful eater" trial, where retired servicemen and women are crushed under an economic strain, so that taxpayer money can fund remedial college courses for illiterate 18-year-olds.
If the bill passes, the legislation will ultimately deliver "increases between 30 percent to 78 percent in Tricare annual premiums for the first year." Those increases are scheduled to begin after the 2012 election to shield Barack Obama from losing military votes in the upcoming presidential election.
After the President is firmly ensconced in the White House for another four years, in addition to first-time enrollment fees, the plan will then impose a "five-year increase ranging from 94 percent to 345 percent -- more than 3 times current levels." That means a "retired Army colonel with a family currently paying $460 a year for health care will pay $2,048." And that's Barack Obama's way of saying 'thank you' to our men and women in uniform?
Howard "Buck" McKeon (R-CA), chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, maintains that it's wrong to place the burden for irresponsible spending on our military, saying, "We can't keep asking those who have given so much to give that much more." Especially since, according to Mr. McKeon, "we aren't willing to impose a similar hardship on the rest of the population." Maybe Buck doesn't realize that the only Americans who are really exempt are the unionized workers courted by Obama; meanwhile, everyone else is fair game.
Logic tells us that this is just the beginning in a series of "Yes we can...changes." America should heed the message being sent directly from Mr. Obama: "First I'll castrate the military, and after I'm finished with those guys, I'm coming for you!"
One might ask, how is this possible? How does a patriotic nation that takes pride in its military target them for increases in health care premiums as they age? Lest we forget, this administration's value system utilizes government dollars to ensure women can kill the unborn, so why are we surprised that our armed forces are being targeted? Question is, who comes next - the aged, infirm, mentally challenged, and chronically ill?
For the sake of entitlement programs, Obama's slash-and-burn military mentality is putting American troops in harm's way abroad by asking them to bear the brunt of budgetary shortfalls and fight wars without the "equipment and force levels needed for global missions." Then, if they happen to make it home alive without being shot dead by the Muslim extremists to whom the President keeps apologizing, they're asked to pay more for health insurance while the civilian workforce at the Department of Defense and the federal government are left unscathed.
One peeved Congressional aide discussing the proposal expressed the opinion that "It doesn't matter what the benefit is, whether it's commissary, PX, or healthcare, or whatever ... under the rationale that if you raise your hand and sign up to serve, you earn a base set of benefits, and it should have nothing to do with your rank when you served, and how much you're making when you retire." Yeah, that was true until Barack Obama was elected to "fundamentally transform" America. Since that day, all bets are off. Congressional hearings on the matter are set to begin next month.

Kevin McCullough - Why Does the Left Despise Valor
There is a pretty reliable predictor in America today. If someone says something nice about our military, the need to support them, or show demonstrative appreciation for them outright--that person is likely a person of the political and theological right.
I'm not sure why that's the case, but it is so dog gone accurate in the circles of punditry, media, and entertainment, I have to think it's not much different in other places where hard core partisan ranks exist.
This weekend is the perfect example.
One of the most important films to be made in such a long time--honoring our military--reinforces the love of family, the honor of sacrifice, the love of country, and most importantly deep appreciation for men who do things most of us would shrink from. Yet almost universally in media, punditry, and entertainment circles it is being panned as pro-war-mongering-propaganda-responsible-for-all-that-is-wrong. They base these arguments on everything from video games, to perceived war crimes.
They lay these charges at the feet of Act Of Valor, an independently produced film debuting this weekend.
But what I want to know more specifically is why?
Why were there repeated articles on GAWKER and HUFFINGTON POST this week--prior to the film’s release and in a couple of instances complete admission by the person writing the critique that admitted they hadn't seen more than the trailer--that included denouncements of danger, lies, and propaganda that this film contained?
Everybody knows that the left hates war. To a fault. I've debated leftists who believed freeing slaves, stopping the Holocaust, or liberating fifty million people from the suffocation of tyranny is somehow an abuse.
What the media will never tell you is that the right doesn't like war either.
But the difference between the two mindsets is simple: sometimes stopping a known evil is worth the sacrifice of the price paid.
The overarching problem for the left is that increasingly evil is indistinguishable, unrecognizable, and in some cases ignored. Pious platitudes about negotiating, compromising, or blaming America for her wrongs, somehow become a relevant response from the left when staring into the eyes of a tyrant who would kill us if he had the power to do so.
Which brings us back to the heart of Act Of Valor...
In a completely apolitical way Navy SEALs penetrate boundaries, carry out missions, and sometimes take lives of those who are committing the most heinous of crimes. The toll it takes on them as they carry out their mission is never seen--it's not really allowed to be, and the media seems little to care.
This film and every amazing frame of its mind-blowing photography, authentication, action, and yes story is an overt thank you to the SEALs--and by extension the Soldiers, Marines, and others--who put their life on the line, with only the backing of one another to cause them to believe they will make it home.
It's easy for the writers at Rolling Stone, CNN, Gawker, the Huffington Post, and even Mr. Moviefone to mock, deride, and seek to undo the tribute this movie paints.
But it does not make it less than the ugly gesture that it is for these leftist populated outlets to spill their bile upon.
Maybe I'm angry, because I have loved ones in harms way today as I pen these words. Not low-life drop outs that Charlie Rangel would have you believe all military service personnel are, but academically high-achieving, physical specimens that take their knowledge, their strength, their character, and their valor into the line of fire, to keep us from harm tonight.
I don't know what total box office proceeds will be when the final chapter of Act Of Valor's narrative is written, but I know that it is a great piece of filmmaking; it has action that succeeds better than anything Matt Damon ever made. And while the suave smoothness of the well-turned phrase isn't perfect, knowing that we owe our lives to the men who had the courage to reveal their identities even in making this film, gives me greater appreciation for its well-produced message.
Friends, don't buy the tripe. Act Of Valor is a demonstration of courage in that it even exists.
It is difficult to put into words how GOOD this film is.
It is even harder to put into words how important this film is.
And how much we owe... to "the damn few!"

Doug Giles - Act of Valor Trumps Hollywood’s Asinine Squalor
Finally, a 21st century movie that doesn’t portray our military as corrupt, stupid, confused torturers who murder innocent babies.
Act of Valor, which opened this weekend, features active (and anonymous) Navy SEALs in the re-creation of real events that showcase our crème de la crème rescuing our operatives and crushing our enemies in an OMG type of way.
I’ve got two words for the manner in which our boys were depicted in this flick … Sa-lute!
If I were a wannabe enemy of the U.S.A. (foreign or domestic) I’d be crapping my cargo pants (or tunic) after viewing Act of Valor—chiefly because our special forces are some bad mamajambas who have the tools and the tenacity to jack you up.
Yep, be afraid, villains, as our troops are effective ministers of God poised, ready and willing with stealth and style to inflict the wrath of God on those who do evil. I’m talkin’ Romans 13:1-5 style. Look it up if you don’t know what I’m talking about.
Another thing that I truly enjoyed about this film was the unambiguous patriotism of the soldiers and their families. Yep, no whining about their missions from their families or the SEALs who sacrificed their lives and limbs for God and country. It almost felt like I was in America again as I watched this movie. It was weird—but a good weird.
Even though it’s shocking to see our troops displayed in a magnificent manner within this Occuculture that loathes them, it was not a shocker to me; I have had the good fortune to spend time with many of our special ops and other soldiers in hunting camps from Alaska to Texas and have found them just as the movie displayed them: consummate class acts without a hint of the BS Hollyweird has smeared them with over the last decade.
I can’t say enough good things about this movie. In the theater in which my wife and I watched it we spotted several older gents and couples who sat in their seats and silently wept as the credits rolled. It was sacred.
I’m sure all the scabs and the venomous wood lice of the Left are going to crawl out from under the rocks where they dwell and bash this war pic, but that’s alright. Our SEALs and others have afforded you the right to be stupid and bray your insanity by keeping bad guys at bay, both at home and abroad, and thereby giving you the wherewithal to play your silly and ungrateful games against our fair land.
Lastly, parents, take your teenagers to see Act of Valor. Maybe, just maybe, some of the courage, patriotism and dignity depicted in this film will erase the film this crappy culture has slimed your kid with.
God bless America, our warriors who protect her, and those involved with this movie. Amen.
