Star Parker - A National Crisis in Character

Here’s an excerpt from a letter I received the other day from a college professor:
….throughout this election I discussed with students the differences between ideologies. The majority of them are on federal financial aid. They are fine with more taxes as long as they will be taken care of. It is disturbing to hear that they are willing to spend their own money on tattoos and cell phones but cannot buy the book for class until the financial aid comes in.

For those who see social conservatism as an annoyance and argue that Republicans must purge this agenda from their party in order to survive, I say “think again.”

If Republicans want revival, we need honest focus on what’s really wrong in America and what must be done to assure that a great nation will be standing for our grandchildren and great grandchildren.

This kind of thinking is different from polls and focus groups and clever schemes to manage media and voter turnout.

Leadership is about identifying the truth, believing it, and telling it in a way that people can grasp. Then they will respond and follow.

The professor’s letter provides a snapshot, a hint, of what America’s most basic problem is today. It’s a problem of character and values.

Having lectured on over 180 college campuses over the last 20 years, I have seen exactly what the professor is talking about.

Of course government is too big. But how did it get this way? Americans vote every two years. They voted every two years during the whole period over which government grew to its current unwieldy size.

With the majority of the country now on one kind of government program or another, does anybody really think we can change this without talking about the human attitudes and values that produced it?

Democrats have a much easier problem than Republicans. They are not trying to change America. The trends and attitudes that got the whole country on welfare, that produced the moral relativism that is destroying our families and character, is the platform of the Democratic Party.

Democrat politicians just have one job. Deny the patient is sick.

Republicans, if they are going to be a real opposition party, have a much tougher job.

With all the talk about this last election being driven by demographics and turnout, the most basic point is the party and its candidate did not step up as a serious, principled opposition party.

We can’t save Medicare and Social Security. They are bankrupt. Did we hear this from the Republican candidate? We heard wishy washy words about reforming these systems so we can save them.

Did we hear anything about how our public schools - controlled by unions whose agenda is growing their benefits and promoting moral relativism among our youth- are destroying our children and our future? No.

When Ronald Reagan was first elected in November 1980, 18 percent of our babies were born to unwed mothers. Today 42 percent are. Anyone who thinks this is not of crisis of the first order can just as easily vote for a Democrat as a Republican.

Americans just re-elected a president who opposed the Supreme Court decision banning partial birth abortion. The leader of our nation thinks it should be legal in America to kill a live, fully formed infant. What does this say about America today and our future?

There may be Republicans who think that we can ignore the crisis in character and values that underlies our fiscal crisis. There may be Republicans that think if we have a better tax system it doesn’t matter if we have a country of single mothers, sexually ambiguous and confused men, and abortion and euthanasia on demand.

But ignoring these things would mean not just the end of the Republican Party. But the end of our country.

Hal Lindsey - Watchmen On The Walls

1 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.

2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,

3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good,

4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—

5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.
2 Timothy 3:1-5 (NIV)

The Conservative Path to Power - Limited Government

“With all these blessings, what more is necessary to make us a happy and a prosperous people? Still one thing more, fellow citizens—a wise and frugal Government, which shall restrain men from injuring one another, shall leave them otherwise free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned.”
Thomas Jefferson

Dennis Miller - Ahmadinejad at the UN and NFL Ref Chaos

Comedian and political commentator Dennis Miller believes the United States is perceived as weak in the Middle East, and he wants President Obama to send a stronger message to the region’s countries, to get their attention. One of his ideas includes diverting American aid to Egypt, to Israel.

“This is what happens when you’re deemed to be the weak horse,” Miller said on Bill O’Reilly’s program on Fox News Wednesday night. “I think we’re deemed to be the riderless horse in that part of the world right now. We got to send a message and you know, I think the only thing we’re sending right now is Ben Bernanke with QE3 and the additional pump of the Fed has so devalued our dollar right now that the $2 billion we send to Egypt is a big slap in the face. That’s about all we got to send them a message.”

Mia Love - Are Entitlements Killing The American Dream?

"Well it's interesting, because what his [Barack Obama] policy did was incentivize bad behavior and punish good behavior. Somehow, it's not ok -- they removed the incentives for people to actually go out and work -- and not lose everything. And what we're doing is we are crippling Americans, and saying 'We're just going to hand you a paycheck and you don't have to do anything about it.' ... Well, we spend $900 billion on poverty programs that are supposed to end poverty, but it continues to grow and grow and grow, which tells you it's not working. This president would rather rate his success on how much money he's divvying out than actually rating his success on how many people actually need those programs. ... I think he's stripping away the American dream as we know it."

Star Parker - Welfare dependency destroys black families

Star Parker appears on Varney and Company (August 2011) explaining how the entitlement mentality has destroyed the black family.

Stuart Varney: It is entitlement week on Fox Business network. Star Parker, admitted former welfare cheat and president of CURE is live with us now. Star, welcome to the program.

Star Parker: Well, thank you, it's good to be back with you.

Varney: Indeed it is. We've been running clips earlier in the program of your interview with John Stossel where you're saying how easy it was to get a couple of checks a month to pay for your food and all the rest of it. Here's my question, though. When you were on welfare, when you were cheating and doing it, did you feel you were cheating or did you feel, 'hey look, it's out there, I'm entitled to it.' Give it to me. How did you feel when you were doing it?

Star: I didn't have any feelings. I was also on drugs. It didn't matter because I had bought the lie that poor people are poor because rich people are rich so I didn't have any problem with going on welfare to pay for my life. But now remember, you didn't have to use your check to pay for food because you also get food stamps.

Varney: So when you were on welfare, you got cash welfare, you certainly got food stamps, your rent was paid for, medical treatment was paid for...was everything paid for by the government?

Star: Yes, everything was paid for by the government, but keep in mind that Uncle Sam is cruel to the poor. These programs don't work for them. We have over 4,000 housing projects in this country. It's not working for the people -- you just get addicted to it like any other drug and you start depending on that life and it spirals you into a little dark hole.

Varney: So, I've been making a point this week that the recipients of this extensive entitlement program, that the recipients are actually destroyed by it. Now that's a very strong thing of me to say. Would you agree with it?

Star: I absolutely agree. The recipient is not only destroyed, but their personal dignity, and then they become much more addicted for all of their lives, but whole communities are destroyed. Let's look at what happened, for instance in the black community -- the impact of this entitlement mentality and welfare -- government dependency.

After the war on poverty in the 60s, we began to see the unraveling of the entire black community because the family collapsed. During the 60s, the black family was pretty healthy. Seventy-eight percent of husbands were in their homes with their wives raising their children. But after this lure to government that said "you don't have to work, you don't have to save, you don't have to get married," over time marriage stopped occurring to where now 7 out of 10 black children are born outside of marriage and what happens when you don't have that intact family is your values change. So your culture changes. So your community changes.

Varney: You're out there now very publicly saying the entitlement mentality is a very bad thing, it destroys communities. What's the reaction to you now saying what you're saying?

Star: Well, depends on who I'm saying it to. Some give me death threats and others say 'tell us more.' How did you get out? And that's one of the reasons I wrote my book "Uncle Sam's Plantation" because I want people to understand that they don't have to live at the hand of the government.

You know, I'm spending my life, as you said, I'm running an organization here in Washington, DC, spending my life, I suppose, to pay back society to get everybody off of welfare. I just feel there are some contributions that everybody can make without Uncle Sam telling them 'don't worry about your life, just live off our hand from womb to tomb.'

Varney: I just want to know, real briefly, get a lot of hostility?

Star: Do I get hostility? Well, of course I do. Hey, being a black conservative in this society is social suicide: you live alone, you have a lonely life.

Varney: Well, welcome to the program, it's very good to have you. It's Star Parker.

Jeannie DeAngelis - Entitlements as Economic Stimulus

Originally posted at Big Government

Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack has officially joined a prestigious list of Democrat economic geniuses that believe entitlement programs stimulate the economy.First there was Nancy Pelosi who said, “Now, let me say about unemployment insurance…this is one of the biggest stimuluses [sic] to our economy. Economists will tell you this money is spent quickly. It injects demand into the economy, and is job creating.”

Excuse me Nancy, isn’t cash obtained in a liquor store heist also spent quickly, and couldn’t theft be considered a job creator for cops, the courts, and prison personnel?

Even still, Mrs. Pelosi contends unemployment insurance “creates jobs faster than almost any other initiative you can name because, again, it is money that is needed for families to survive, and it is spent. So it has a double benefit. It helps those who have lost their jobs, but it also is a job creator.”

President Obama, the man who has also proven to be a fiscal whiz kid, concurs with Pelosi that the extension of unemployment benefits is “good for the entire economy.” Obama said “It’s probably the biggest boost that we can give an economy because those folks are most likely to spend the money with businesses, and that gives them customers.”

The President might as well say smoking cigarettes creates a need for cancer doctors, provides customers for funeral directors and “shovel ready” jobs for gravediggers.

In the same vein, Tom Vilsack believes that food stamps, an entitlement program that makes available the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to approximately 46,000,000 people and 22,000,000 households, also stimulates the economy. Apparently, the Secretary of Agriculture gets excited in “terms of job growth,” when talking about food stamps because he’s convinced SNAP puts unemployed “people to work.”

Out touting the administration’s new job-creation initiatives, Tom Vilsack was asked to address the problem of a growing population of unemployed and poverty-stricken Americans forced to live on food stamps. In response, Vilsack took the opportunity to promote the Pelosi and Obama Entitlement as Economic Stimulus agenda, saying:
"When you talk about the SNAP program or the food stamp program, you have to recognize that it’s also an economic stimulus… If people are able to buy a little more in the grocery store, someone has to stock it, package it, shelve it, process it, and ship it. All of those are jobs. It’s the most direct stimulus you can get in the economy during these tough times."
What Mr. Vilsack didn’t mention was that SNAP recipients usually live in low-income urban areas known for being what Michelle Obama calls “food deserts.” Subsequently, the underprivileged are forced to purchase unhealthy foods with those economy-stimulating food stamps.

Although if one applies the logic of Pelosi, Obama, and Vilsack, the resulting health issues could end up being a win-win because while stimulating the economy, the unhealthy use of food stamps also provides jobs for health care workers and personnel to look after individuals disabled by diabetes, heart disease, and strokes.

Moreover, as an added stimulating benefit, money saved on groceries means poor, destitute people can then buy more frivolous things like jewelry, electronics, and designer clothes.

Therefore, Barack Obama’s detractors are wrong about him being clueless on the issue of jobs and the economy. The President does have a plan. The Obama administration is doing all they can to get as many people as possible on economy-stimulating government-funded entitlement programs like AFDC, housing assistance, school lunch programs, low-income energy aid, and of course unemployment insurance and food stamps, all of which promise to have the US economy and job market booming in no time.
