"You and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We will preserve for our children this, the last best hope of man on earth, or we will sentence them to take the first step into a thousand years of darkness. If we fail, at least let our children and our children's children say of us we justified our brief moment here. We did all that could be done."
Ronald Reagan

Rand Paul - I'm Not Against Using Drones To Find Criminals

In Congress, a bipartisan bill that would require law enforcement officials to obtain warrants before deploying drones for surveillance in criminal cases has been introduced.

State legislatures from all over the country have been ratcheting up tensions surrounding UAVs.

Bills on domestic surveillance drones have already been introduced by many states including Maine, Virginia, Florida, Montana, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon and Texas. (Florida, Virginia and Montana appear to be in the lead for turning bans into law.)

Charlottesville, Virginia, grabbed headlines passing its two-year moratorium on both police drone use in criminal investigations and on arming drones with less-lethal weapons.

More than two years in advance of the scheduled ban lift, 10 states have already passed, or introduced, bills restricting law enforcement’s use of drones. It looks like even more states will follow suit.

CPAC 2013 - US Senator Rand Paul

“My 13-hour filibuster was a message to the president: Good intentions are not enough,” the Kentucky Republican said. “Mr. President, good intentions are not enough. After Mr. Paul’s information-seeking filibuster over the Obama administration’s policy regarding the constitutionality of drone strikes, Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. sent him a curt letter shortly afterward clarifying that Mr. Obama does not have the authority “to use a weaponized drone to kill an American not engaged in combat on American soil.”

“The filibuster was about drones, but also much more: Do we have a Bill of Rights, do we have a Constitution, and will we defend it?” Mr. Paul said. Many in the crowd at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, Md., stood for the entirety of the address, waving “Stand with Rand” signs at various points — a meme that grew out of the recent filibuster.

Newt Gingrich - Stand With Rand Paul Drone Filibuster

"What I find sad about Sen. McCain’s recent comments both to Ted Cruz, when Ted Cruz was frankly raising legitimate questions [about Benghazi] and with Rand Paul, is, you know, when I first knew John McCain in the House — he was a maverick. In the Senate, for years, he was a maverick,” Gingrich said Thursday (3/7/2013) on Fox News.

He continued: “Of everybody I know in the Senate, I didn’t know anybody who had a better record of bucking the leadership, doing what he thought mattered, marching to his own drummer. And I think that it’s unfortunate. But I think frankly it doesn’t hurt Ted Cruz and it doesn’t hurt Rand Paul — it hurts John McCain. The country is moving on, we’re in a new era, people know that these are legitimate questions.”

State of the Union Address 2013

Some of the lies and obfuscations Barack Obama said during the 2013 State of the Union address.

NOTE: Obfuscation (or beclouding) is the hiding of intended meaning in communication, making communication confusing, willfully ambiguous, hard to interpret and understand.

Barack Obama quotes 2013 SOTU:“Over the last few years, both parties have worked together to reduce the deficit by more than $2.5 trillion.”

“Already, the Affordable Care Act is helping to slow the growth of health care costs.”

“Let me repeat--nothing I’m proposing tonight should increase our deficit by a single dime.”

“We have doubled the distance our cars will go on a gallon of gas, and the amount of renewable energy we generate from sources like wind and solar – with tens of thousands of good, American jobs to show for it.”

“That’s why my Administration will keep cutting red tape and speeding up new oil and gas permits.”

“As long as I’m Commander-in-Chief, we will do whatever we must to protect those who serve their country abroad, and we will maintain the best military in the world. We will invest in new capabilities, even as we reduce waste and wartime spending.”

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., delivers GOP response to President Obama's 2013 State of the Union address.
