In Congress, a bipartisan bill that would require law enforcement officials to obtain warrants before deploying drones for surveillance in criminal cases has been introduced.
State legislatures from all over the country have been ratcheting up tensions surrounding UAVs.
Bills on domestic surveillance drones have already been introduced by many states including Maine, Virginia, Florida, Montana, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon and Texas. (Florida, Virginia and Montana appear to be in the lead for turning bans into law.)
Charlottesville, Virginia, grabbed headlines passing its two-year moratorium on both police drone use in criminal investigations and on arming drones with less-lethal weapons.
More than two years in advance of the scheduled ban lift, 10 states have already passed, or introduced, bills restricting law enforcement’s use of drones. It looks like even more states will follow suit.
In theory, as the DHS website describes it, the Secretary of Homeland Security “may designate a foreign country for TPS due to conditions in the country that temporarily prevent the country’s nationals from returning safely, or in certain circumstances, where the country is unable to handle the return of its nationals adequately.” Those conditions include hurricanes, environmental catastrophes, civil war, epidemics and other “extraordinary and temporary conditions.”
The U.S. allows illegal aliens from TPS-designated countries to live here, work here, be protected from detention or deportation, and travel freely. It’s essentially a bad-weather pass into the U.S. Whenever a natural disaster strikes, we allow legions of foreigners who entered illegally — mostly from Latin America — to stay here while their homelands recover.
In the meantime, TPS winners can apply for a panoply of other immigration benefits and protections and file for “adjustment of status” to pave the way to permanent legalization. In fact, the official draft application for ObamaCare lists “Temporary Protected Status (TPS) and Applicant for Temporary Protected Status (TPS)” as an “eligible immigration status.”

Tuesday morning (2-19-13), President Obama pitched a plea to Congress to avoid sequestration on March 1st. The president said the series of automatic spending cuts “won’t grow the economy, won’t create jobs, and will put hardship on a whole lot of people.”
Fox News contributor Michelle Malkin reacted to President Obama calling on Congress to come together against this “meat-cleaver” approach. She said on Your World, “This is the court jester of sequester. I think that this press conference was a national embarrassment.”
Dr. Ben Carson, director of Pediatric Surgery at Johns Hopkins University, recently criticized health care spending in front of President Obama during his keynote address at the Annual National Prayer Breakfast. Critics, however, came out swinging after his remarks, saying that Dr. Carson made the comments as he showboated for a special occasion.
“There’s no question that [President Obama] has advocated, you know, basically a policy of ‘tax the rich,’” said Carson. “I have advocated a policy that comes from the Bible, which is a very fair policy of proportional taxation. If it was good enough for God, why wouldn’t it be good enough for us? The minute you deviate away from that, you begin to get into all kinds of biases.”
